The essential duties for this job include:

Construction Inspector I

  • Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees.

  • Consults with Project Engineers, resident project representatives and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time and cost estimates.

  • Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans and ensures compliance with approved safety standards; inspects barricades; as required moves traffic control devices and barricades.

  • Drives to observe and inspect ongoing construction work and documents work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project

  • Trains and mentors less experienced inspectors on work methods.

  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Construction Inspector II: In addition to performing the duties of a Construction Inspector I at a more advanced level:

  • Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.

  • Prepares monthly and final estimates.

Construction Inspector III: In addition to performing the duties of a Construction Inspector I and I at a more advanced level:

  • Ensures prompt notification and repair of any deterioration or damage that could be hazardous to the traveling public or more costly to repair if neglected.

  • Informs plant personnel of material or production problems, rejects substandard material and assists in determining cause for material problems.

The required competencies for this job include:

  • Communicate effectively

  • Applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques and surveying procedures, standards and instruments

  • Applicable testing methods, processes and procedures

  • The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices

  • Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups

  • Reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints and maps

  • Preparing and maintaining records, files and reports

  • The use of personal computers and applicable programs, applications and systems

  • Maintaining a safe working relationship

Education

This job requires the following:

  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Work Experience

This job requires the following:

Construction Inspector I:

  • 4 years in construction inspection.

Construction Inspector II:

  • 5 years in construction inspection.

Construction Inspector III:

  • 6 years in construction inspection.

Applicable to all levels:

  • If performing Materials or process Inspection, experience required in lab work, material inspection or other engineering related activities.

  • Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent.

  • Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications

The following Licenses and/or Certifications are required for this job:

  • Safety Impact Certificate (issued by TxDOT at time of hire)

  • Valid Driver's License at time of hire

Other Conditions:

  • This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

Additional Conditions for this position:

  • Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.

  • Required to work weekends and holidays.

  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.

  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.

  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing during employment.

Summary Description of Position Primary duties include a variety of tasks assisting with operation of the plant. Cleaning, washing, sweeping, and shoveling material. Operate skid-steer or similar type clean up loader. Perform safety and operational inspections. Perform and inspect for preventative plant maintenance. Assist with maintenance activities as directed. Other duties as needed may include, operate mobile equipment, operate fixed plant equipment, assist with various tasks throughout the facility. Travel to other facilities may be required. Essential Functions * Clean plant area by shoveling or washing spilled material from under conveyors, tail pulleys and structures; removing debris from stairs, catwalks, platforms, tunnels, etc. , washing concrete pads; sweeping control houses, etc. * Performs inspections of assigned area and documents safety concerns and mechanical defects * Unloads and cleans rail cars and/or barges as required. * Maintain grounds by mowing grass, pick up litter, etc. * Performs facilities preventative maintenance and assist maintenance personnel in repairs and clean up. * Maintains good housekeeping practices on equipment. * Incumbent should be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; grip, climb, reach, shovel, squat, crawl, or pull, push, as well as, bend and lift at least 45 pounds. * Incumbent must be able to work in outdoor weather conditions of heat and cold. * May be subject to wearing a respirator. * Frequently works near moving, mechanical parts, and vehicular traffic. * Must be able to work required overtime and flexible work schedule. * Must be able to speak, read, and have a working knowledge of the English language. * Will work outdoors and exposed to varying and/or extreme weather conditions (i.e., heat, wet, cold, etc) * May work in high and/or precarious places or cramped work space that requires getting into awkward positions. * Must be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; grip, climb, reach, shovel, squat, crawl, or pull, push, as well as, bend and lift 45 pounds Education, Experience, Skills Required Education * High School Diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of training and work experience.
