Job Duties: The successful applicant should have working experience, or willing to learn how to operate and maintain all types of earthmoving and construction equipment. The successful candidate must also have good human relations skills and abilities as well as the personality to successfully communicate and problem solve with customers. Customer satisfaction is of primary concern.

The functions of this position include the following:

  • Independently and successfully diagnose and repair equipment

  • Overhaul engines and other major components

  • Previous experience working on heavy equipment

  • Knowledge of diesel engines

  • Knowledge of hydraulics

  • Knowledge of electronics

  • Intermediate computer skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

As a Shop Technician you are required to work in an industrial environment which includes exposure to significant environmental conditions.

Physical requirements include:

  • Overall stamina

  • Sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, pulling and/or pushing

  • Carrying, grasping, reaching, stooping and crouching

  • Listening and speaking

  • Must have good motor coordination skills

  • Coordination of eyes, hands, and feet

  • Verbal intelligence and numerical intelligence

  • The workplace environmental conditions include subject to noise, heat, cold, injury exposures, and atmospheric exposures

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

Graduate of a technical school, military school, or relevant working experience acceptable to the company.

This position supports the department by performing preventive maintenance and repairs on Central Office assigned vehicles and Component Remanufacture Sections to support Fleet Operations. Apply with us today!Perform preventive maintenance on Central Office Fleet to supply quality vehicles to our Central Office customers. Repair vehicles in the most cost effective manner to make the best use of our funds. Apply stickers to inside of windshield to communicate to our customers the date and mileage of the next Preventive Maintenance Service. Complete all appropriate paperwork in a legible, professional manner. Use the computer and utilize manufacturer's websites for aid of repair and diagnostics of vehicles. Performs #1 and #2 Preventive Maintenance and repairs which includes state inspections and oil changes within or less than the allotted time frames. Lube equipment at every PM as per Equipment Managers manual on all equipment types assigned to the Fleet Management Division Units are diesel and gasoline powered. Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lunch break: 30 minutes Work hours are subject to change during the winter and summer seasons. May require travel, overtime and shift work. * Successful completion of the Commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee Program; or * Two years of journey level mechanical experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or * An equivalent combination of experience and training. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  * Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed or equivalent.  * Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment (Class 4 or Class 7 preferred).   * Must successfully operate vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.   * Possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License and any endorsements necessary to operate specific vehicles or equipment.   * Possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
