The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing assignments that require the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria's to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

  • Exercising judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Preparing engineering related calculations and developing drawings and visual aids

  • Assisting with field inspections to evaluate the work performed and materials used

  • Assisting with construction administration and documentation of deficiencies and deviations from plans

  • Working under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

  • Researching and compiling project information for reporting, marketing, and funding requests

  • Creating and maintaining centralized files for project records (including digital)

  • Coordinating logistics and meetings for Vice President and project managers

  • Attending and taking minutes for the development team as requested

  • Helping in the preparation of reports, including monthly development reports

  • Assisting with community outreach duties as needed

  • Attending neighborhood, community, and project meetings

  • Undertaking tasks as may be assigned by the Vice President or project managers

  • Having a clear understanding of the budget and assist in the creation of and adherence to project and development budgets

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently in pursuit of Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or other related field required

  • Strong problem-solving skills and consistent attention to detail

  • Ability to manage changing deadlines and work well under pressure for multiple team leaders

  • Work independently and effectively to prioritize multiple tasks

  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models)

  • A university student that has more than one year of school remaining before earning a degree preferred, these students typically are Freshmen, Sophomores, or Juniors in university. Successful Interns may be eligible to return for additional internships

  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite

Internship length is targeting a minimum of six months with the option to continue until graduation. If the applicant selected is attending a local university, then part time during school up to 20 hours/wk. During the summer student expected to work up to 35 hours/wk. A successful candidate will apply basic knowledge of college-level science and mathematics principles and practices to assigned tasks in the design, development, and validation of products as part of the Engineering team. Job duties and responsibilities: * Assists in creating drawings and validation of test specifications considering application, cost, performance, product life, manufacture, assembly and service. Creates designs using 2D and 3D CAD software and assists with prototyping activities. * Works with other engineering disciplines and cross-functional teams to understand customer needs. * Aligns engineering requirements with identified customer expectations. Assists all markets at Cummins on processing standard business needs and documentation. * Follow all safety regulations and use appropriate PPE. * Participates as a team member and actively contributes towards team goals. * Carries out defined and moderate complexity tasks. * Willingness to learn about Cummins' customer base and ability to apply our products in the industry. Skills: * Demonstrates good understanding and applies knowledge of science and mathematics * CAD experience with 2D detail drawings (AutoCAD) and 3D modeling (CREO), a plus * Exposure or background in basic manufacturing processes * Ability to document and follow common engineering process * Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate within a team * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite for business organization tasks * Willingness to learn tools and hands-on work Education, Licenses, Certifications: Enrolled in a BS Engineering program with a minimum of sophomore level in good standing, with interest in Engineering or Science related career field, is required. Demonstrated ability to balance course workload along with setting time for work at Cummins during the internship duration. Experience: Minimal work experience, such as internship, co-op, or other pertinent academic projects is required. Internship length is minimum 6 months and targeting 1-2 yrs, until graduation, M-F 8:30AM to 5PM.
