Construction Crew Leader

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.
What will you do?
The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.
Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.
Where will you serve?
Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County, New York is seeking an AmeriCorps member to join our leadership team. During your year of service at Habitat Dutchess, you will be integral to capacity building for this small organization through volunteer engagement and recruitment. In 2019 Habitat Dutchess helped two families enter their forever homes, with two more expected to be in their forever homes in 2020-2021. You can be a part of the team that makes this happen. Through this position you will learn about building community relationships, develop skills in social media and marketing, coordinate volunteers, work closely with staff and Habitat families and form long lasting bonds and friendships. Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County has built more than 23 homes in Dutchess County as well as completed 120 repairs. We are a small organization of 10 staff, 7 of whom are staff in our ReStore. We are small but mighty and are looking to grow and expand our program so that we can continue to put God's love into action. In addition to the standard AmeriCorps living allowance and education award, we also provide a monthly food voucher coupon and have affordable housing options available.
Dutchess County is a part of New York's Hudson Valley Region, an area full of great activities and adventures. From estates such as the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Presidential Library to museums such as the Dia Beacon art museum, Dutchess County has many enriching activities to offer. If hiking and outdoors is more your style, there are plenty of state parks to explore as well as the Stormville Flea Market, featured on the popular TV Show Flea Market Flip. In August 2018, Habitat Dutchess ReStore shoppers were on Flea Market Flip and won!
Benefits of AmeriCorps service
Living allowance $15,850 for approximately 10 months of service.
Segal Education Award of $6,195, upon successful completion of service.

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity International and AmeriCorps.
Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Experience working with volunteers, teaching or group facilitation.
Experience working as a member of a team.
Basic experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
Current valid driver's license, a clean driving record and reliable transportation.
Ability to drive large pick-up trucks (or willingness to learn)
