Construction Counsel (Hybrid) - SF Bay Area Or Iowa (860-Sls)

Our client, a top privately owned organization, seeks to hire a Construction Counsel to join their legal team in their San Jose/San Francisco, CA or Des Moines, IA office. 3x/week in office presence and some travel is required.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a J.D. and 3+ years relevant experience in Construction law at a law firm and/or inhouse. The Construction Counsel will assist with negotiating, drafting and documentation of contracts, purchase orders, subcontracts, and material supply contracts, as well as various other company related legal matters. The Construction Counsel will possess the skills and experience to support the evolving needs of the business. This attorney will be responsible for driving negotiations, assisting project teams with project documentation and risk mitigation, and managing claims/dispute resolution.
Responsibilities include:

• Review, negotiate and document sophisticated, multi-party construction contracts and change orders.

• Represent company's position in variety of situations while striking appropriate balance between limiting company's risk and preserving the company's valued relationships with customers, general contractors, and subcontractors.

• Provide practical legal counsel within the context of a dynamic, diverse commercial enterprise.

• Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with, and provide practical legal advice to, project management and project execution team members on a wide variety of construction project issues including contract compliance, change order documentation, claim documentation, project notices, regulatory compliance, and subcontractor/supplier management.

• Aid with the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of best practices for construction contract risk review, contract formation processes, and construction project execution processes.

• Provide sophisticated analyses and recommendations to management teams regarding negotiation of contract terms; provide legal analysis and advice regarding the resolution or pursuit of disputes and claims.

• Act as a steadfast advocate for company in claims and litigation matters.

• Select and manage outside counsel resources to obtain highest value for company.

• Proficiency with Adobe, Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  Compensation is competitive and currently targeted at a base salary range of $175 to $210k plus bonus, profit sharing, and excellent benefits. Base salary and overall compensation will be determined by number of years of directly relevant experience, history of success and geographic location.
