Construction Cost Estimator

JGMS Government Services is seeking a full-time, on-site Cost Estimator to join our team!

Salary Range: $75K to $101K

Scope:

This position provides cost estimating support for NREL's Office of Site Operations on capital and minor construction projects in the $50K - $200M range including to large-scale electrical upgrades, research and development (R&D) laboratory renovations, typical engineering, construction, and large real property maintenance & repair projects. Support includes the preparation and development of complex, multi-disciplined, and detailed cost estimates, value engineering, and review of contractor documents such as change orders, pay applications and submittals.

Job Duties:

• Leads cost estimating for projects capital and minor construction

• Knowledge of industry standard construction estimating software such as SUCCESS or Sage/Timberline

• Manages multiple cost estimates of increasing scope and risk.

• Coordinates and reviews estimates prepared by NREL Project Managers, Engineers and/or Researchers or other project personnel.

• Creates and maintains a cost estimating database to capture actual costs and uses these to inform future cost estimates.

• Utilize in-depth knowledge of cost engineering, engineering and construction practices, mechanical and electrical systems, design activities, escalation, risk assessment, management reserve/contingency applications.

• Provide value engineering, life cycle costing, and other cost engineering techniques to assess cost options and accomplish construction quantity takeoffs from non-documented sources, sketches, and engineering drawings.

• Promotes and develops new cost estimating techniques, and develop and execute plans to improve NREL's cost estimating function and associated deliverables.

• Follow all ESH&Q policies and procedures to ensure and maintain a safe working environment.

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or similar and 9 or more years of progressive estimating experience with commercial, institutional or federal projects.

Certifications Desired:

AACE/CEP, PMI/PMP, EI/PE or similar relevant professional certification desired.

Security Clearance:

Must be able to obtain NREL site security access.

Background Check and Screenings
