A Day in the Life

In this exciting role as a Manufacturing Engineer II supporting Connectors Manufacturing, you will have responsibility for supporting manufacturing of high-quality components used in implantable medical devices. The Brooklyn Center facility supports the design, development, and production of components used in implantable devices for a variety of Medtronic businesses. In this role you will gain experience with products across Medtronic's portfolio, supporting your development and growth. This role reports to the Connectors Engineering Manager and is responsible for improving manufacturing quality, lead time and cost through active problem solving, developing solutions, and implementing process changes in accordance with the quality system. Responsibilities:

  • Design manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance product quality, reduce cycle time, and improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Design the arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure the most efficient and productive layout.
  • Provide hands-on support to production teams, ensuring equipment and processes operate efficiently.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts to resolve issues related to manufacturing operations, including molding and welding.
  • Create and maintain accurate manufacturing documentation, such as work instructions, process flows, and validation protocols.
  • Ensure all processes comply with internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) and process validation activities to ensure reliable and repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to eliminate waste, improve efficiency, and drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with operations, quality, design, and supply chain teams to address production issues and ensure products meet specifications.
  • Train and mentor operators and technicians on new equipment, processes, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Requires practical knowledge and demonstrated competence within the job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A)) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 0 years of experience.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with molding and welding operations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) and working in regulated environments (FDA, ISO).

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot manufacturing issues.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with operations and understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Knowledge of quality systems, including CAPA and root cause analysis.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$79,200.00 - $118,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
