The Role

This role will be expected to contribute on job sites mainly in Northern California, but jobs could exist in Southern California, The Southwest US, and Pacific Northwest US. This is a travel based position for which nearly all work will occur on the road. Job durations will range from 3-7 weeks and will be undertaken by a cross-functional team of 4-6 members handling all trades required to get the work done, together. The crew will remain consistent throughout the job and also from job to job allowing for team cohesion and improvement as a group. This team will be expected to push the limits of construction technology and techniques, and as such will have direct feedback contact with design engineers, project managers, and business developers related to the program. A well-qualified applicant will have experience in many aspects of civil and underground utility installation. The role will be asked to work alongside and participate in various trades as well as train new employees and educate other members of the organization about the complexities of construction implementation.

Requirements

  • Strong capabilities in concrete formwork, site layout, and concrete finish.

  • Obsessive attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship


  • Strong working knowledge of job site safety with the ability to thoroughly evaluate job hazards and complete pre-work task planning with an emphasis on identifying hazards

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with all levels of management; must have high degree of initiative, and the ability to work alone and effectively with other people

  • Extensive knowledge in using hand and power tools

  • The ability to think outside the box and find innovative solutions

Leading Candidates will have

  • Ability to produce parts lists and work plans based off drawings or field walks

  • Ability to produce as-built drawing for work performed

  • Ability to complete job scopes outside of normal core competencies as required

BELFOR team members are a unique breed, committed to restoring not only property, but restoring lives for those affected by disasters, large or small. This position is responsible to provide operational support in reconstruction efforts for clients. Qualified candidates must be well grounded in fundamentals of carpentry and tool usage. Their primary learning mode is OJT through experience and interaction with intermediate and advance carpenters. Basic Carpenters have three development levels; (1) improve supervisory skills from small unskilled labor crews to larger crews that include BELFOR personnel and skilled subcontractors; (2) become increasingly competent with carpenter tools and BELFOR equipment; and (3) develop a basic understanding of field operation tasks specific to restoration industry. This position is the level 2 in the Progressive Carpenter track. Responsibilities * Must be able to take direction from experienced carpenter and supervisor * Move and protect contents without damage * Construct appropriate containment for construction dust, dirt and airborne contaminant in working area * Using appropriate tools and accepted BELFOR methods, perform tasks related to floodcutting, salvaging and labeling baseboards, cabinets, doors, etc * Develop full material knowledge as it relates to types, purposes, grades and uses for trims, doors, cabinetry * Develop proficiency in installation of various forms of insulation * Develop under supervision knowledge of Framing, Trim installation, cabinetry installation * Develop under supervision ability to "dry-in" a building as it relates to roofing material installation * Learn and understand MSDS protocols for chemicals used during mitigation processes * Perform Daily vehicle safety and maintenance inspections and maintain in clean serviceable condition * Must maintain attention to detail * Will be required to meet BELFOR Standards in safeguarding other people's property * Must have a comprehensive understanding of customer service, principles and practices * Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines * Will be required to work nights and weekends as requested and travel periodically * Report time worked and equipment and consumables used timely and accurately * Attend BELFOR sponsored operations and safety training courses as required * Coordinating a small crew of unskilled laborers on most residential projects * Answer simple questions about the project and when to defer questions to more qualified personnel * Maintaining equipment used in daily tasks * Perform emergency services as needed - - IE Board Ups, securing building against further damage * Additional other duties as required Disclaimer The statements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees, and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.
