Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Director of State Mediation and Conciliation Service Division, performs mediation work related to labor-management contract and workplace disputes, supervises representation and other elections, provides training and facilitation, and performs other duties at client locations throughout the State, as assigned.

Department Information

The Public Employment Relations Board is a quasi-judicial administrative agency charged with administering the collective bargaining statutes covering employees of California's public schools, colleges, and universities, employees of the State of California, employees of California local public agencies (cities, counties and special districts), trial court employees and supervisory employees of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Statement of Qualifications

1.Are you able to travel to all parts of the State of California for work assignments, with most of the work normally assigned within the northern or southern half of the state using standard modes of transportation?

2.Describe your working knowledge of funding sources and mechanisms for local government and/or public schools. Provide an example of where you have applied this knowledge.

3.Mediation can occasionally be hostile. Describe two or three techniques you have used to try and create movement in the positions of the participants, and/or reduce the tension. Describe the situation in which you applied each technique.

4.Describe the situations in which your work plans or schedules required changes on short notice due to sudden changes in circumstances or priorities and how you handled them

5.Provide two examples of economic proposals you constructed, including the details of any changes to them that developed related to tradeoffs or amended proposals as the negotiations progressed.

6.Describe the tools and habits you use to organize and prioritize your work while meeting multiple deadlines.
