As a Computer Scientist you will be responsible for the following:
Lead and assist in the application of sound software development, software testing, software integration, software maintenance, and data analysis to support the Construction Engineering Research Laboratory's R and D mission and research projects.
You will perform professional level web-based design and programming, and develop server-based software applications based on DoD best management and security practices.
Develop and perform high-performance supercomputer simulations to solve engineering analysis and design problems, using computational models derived from any of the engineering disciplines.
You will solve practical computer science and engineering analysis and design problems using physics-based computational models and supercomputer simulations.
You will integrate new software products and development practices from industry and other government agencies.
You will analyze, interpret and apply computer science procedures in a variety of situations and recommend effective solutions to senior scientists.
You will plan, construct and maintain databases for data storage, manipulation, and retrieval as needed for computer science applications.
You will develop mobile applications using Mobile User Interface (UI) Design for cross-platform deployment including Android, iOS, Windows, and/or Blackberry.
You will apply knowledge of graphic display systems, general purpose graphics languages, and optimization techniques involving preprocessor graphical algorithms and memory management methods.
Design/test integrated computer hardware and systems using knowledge of computer software concepts such as data representation, data structures, file systems, operating systems, computer languages, software dev methodologies, and network protocols.
You will use current object-oriented programming languages such as C/C++, C#, Java, .NET, and Python to develop computer applications.

Basic Requirement (Education) for Computer Scientist 1550:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in computer science or bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes application and development of mathematical, statistical and computer-simulated models and applications; application of the theoretical foundations of computer science; and specialized knowledge and broad areas of applications of computer science methods and techniques to store, manipulate, transform or present information by means of computer systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (DB-02 or GS-11).
