The Mission of the Department of Public Instruction: 

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education. 

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for an Education Program Consultant II (Working Title: Computer Science and IT Education Consultant) for the Office of Career and Technical Education. This Office is responsible for providing leadership, technical assistance, curriculum development and accountability in North Carolina public schools (grades 6-12) to assist in ensuring students graduating from secondary education are prepared for careers and postsecondary education.

The primary purpose of the position is the development, enhancement, assessment, and maintenance of curriculum at the 6-12 levels with special emphasis on Computer Science and IT Education. The Education Consultant focuses on curriculum acquisition, assessment acquisition, professional development, collaboration with CTSOs, and work-based learning.

The person provides technical assistance, professional development, and collaboration among clients inside and outside the agency. This position is responsible for managing Computer Science and IT Education Middle and High School Courses.

In addition, the Education Consultant is responsible for assisting low-performing schools in achieving their performance goals in Computer Science and IT. The Education Consultant may also be asked to provide assistance to support other state and federal initiatives related to Career and Technical Education.  This position is expected to provide expertise in current instructional practices in Computer Science and IT Education and/or in the area of exceptional children (students with disabilities). All responsibilities are related to Career and Technical Education.

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing instructional design models, curriculum and assessment development processes, and/or research administration related to Computer Science and IT Education Middle and High School curricula.

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating working arrangements with various stakeholders. (ex. committee members, work associates, educational administrators, business and industry members, general public etc.).

  • Demonstrated experience with designing and/or delivering professional development workshops, seminars, and/or training sessions for educators.

  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple work functions such as curriculum assessment projects, professional development sessions, work-based learning opportunities, and/or fostering relationships with a career-technical student organization.

  • Demonstrated awareness of integrating current educational technologies and digital tools into curriculum that enhance teaching and learning.

Management Preferences:

  • Ability to effectively convey ideas in oral and written form.

Master's degree in the education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of specifically related experience in public education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
