SUMMARY:

The Computer Recycling-Material Handler is responsible for the timely sorting, packing, shipping and delivery of computer and other electronic products to vendors by coordinating daily sorting, and shipping activities and managing department layout, organization and schedules. This position verifies and keeps records of incoming product and outgoing shipments. Must also understand data-collection analytics, problem solving, and daily reporting to build a sustainable packing and shipping business process at the distribution center.

  • Separates goods according to the department they are designated for.

  • Monitors & maintains work stations to full capacity with raw donations as needed all day.

  • Delivers goods to designated areas.

  • Processes all cardboard boxes for recycling.

  • Supervises associates involved with the receiving, packing, and shipping of donated computer and related equipment

  • Provides hands on instruction to students in co-operative education

  • Coordinates co-operative curriculum and competencies with co-op supervisor

  • Maintains accurate student records and reports back weekly, liaison between school and students

  • Assures adherence to the equipment sorting process.

  • Assigns daily schedule and tasks to Material Handlers.

  • Responsible for daily shipping schedule planning and execution.

  • Provides follow-up assistance in assuring maximum scheduled performance.

  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of Material Handlers

  • Maintains stocking, staging, and loading functions.

  • Maintains department records and keeps management informed of developments as occurred.

  • Implements safety and good housekeeping standards per Goodwill policies & procedures.

  • Studies shipping notices, bill of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.

  • Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.

  • Determines space requirements and position of shipment in trucks and lays out position of shipments.

  • Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications.

  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside of service facility for repairs.

  • Responsible for physical inventory and cycle counting as required.

  • Analyzes individual's performance data (productivity, quality and safety) to determine training and development needs.

  • Identify and facilitate Kaizen process improvement opportunities

  • Adjusts errors and complaints and applies company policies and procedures.

  • Ensures that all incidents are properly reported and documented, no matter how minor.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associates or technical degree preferred or High School diploma and 3-5 years' experience.

  • A+ Certification with knowledge of all IT systems including, but not limited to, servers, PCs, hardware, and peripherals preferred.

  • Minimum of 1 year experience and understanding of shipping and receiving within a manufacturing or distribution environment.

  • Previous Supervisor experience in a similar work environment.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Proven leadership skills (experience successfully managing people/projects/processes/issues).

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop effective teams

  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to operate various lifting equipment (i.e. fork-lift, hand jack, toe motor, etc.) Must be able to pass forklift certification.

  • Ability to multi-task & handle task with competing priorities.

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are complex.

  • Familiarity with shipping practices, terminology and various modes of transportation.

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

  • Requires acceptable results of CORI check according to Goodwill policy and requirements.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.

  • Work is performed in a distribution center environment.

  • Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

  • May be required to travel to different sites.
