Who are we?
The Department of the Secretary of State, Office of Information Services, is seeking candidates for a Computer Programmer position. This position will have a specialized area and skill set which may include:
Develops and implements test tools and programs for quality assurance testing;
Prepares programs for test environments and tests and debugs computer programs to ensure application operates correctly and meets user requirements;
Writes system and program quality assurance test documentation to facilitate system use and future modifications.
REPRESENTATIVE TASKS: (A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned).
Writes application programs of moderate complexity employing higher level languages such as SQL and Perl, and enterprise class application development tools (examples: Postman, Visual Basic, React, Java, .net) to meet user needs.
Designs program construction using structured programming techniques to ensure system objectives are met.
Writes final user, system, and program documentation to facilitate system use and future modifications.
Maintains existing systems and responds to problems to ensure programs remain effective.
Leads or participates in walk-throughs of program design, coding, and testing to minimize occurrence of program problems.
Attends and participates in vendor, agency, and computer-based training programs to promote development of technical skills and expand knowledge of technology products and capabilities.
In order to be successful, you must have:
Knowledge of high-level programming languages and enterprise class application development tools.
Knowledge of operating system facilities.
Knowledge of computerized file organizations and access techniques.
Knowledge of program testing and debugging techniques.
Knowledge of program documentation procedures.
Knowledge of structured programming.
Knowledge of programmer productivity tools and aids.
Knowledge of computerized problem-solving tools.
Ability to develop a program from program specifications.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a project team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience).
