The person holding this position will operate the Lottery's mainframe computer systems, integrated subsystems and peripheral equipment according checklists, schedules and procedures. In addition, duties include tasks related to the processing of Lottery drawings, dissemination and update of results to media, website and phone. Assist in training less experienced operators. Must always work towards continual improvement.
Operate computers utilizing checklists, schedules and procedures by responding to console messages, running GUI applications and SSH sessions on multiple mainframe systems and multiple integrated sub-systems.
Ensure 2nd person verification is performed on all input data before executing.
Constantly monitor system activity via console messages, logs and network management system and report system abnormalities and/or out of balances to Shift Supervisor immediately.
Operate peripheral devices such as tape drives, printers and copiers, keeping equipment clean and well maintained.
Assist the Supervisor with the install of software updates to production systems and routine maintenance such weekly takeovers and quarterly Disaster Recovery testing to backup data center.
Respond to requests, inquiries and problems from users or refer to appropriate person.
Print, retrieve, organize, distribute and file accordingly, reports, logs, forms and balance sheets manually or electronically.
Ensure timely escalation of problems and issues to on-call subject matter experts.
Fill out comprehensive report of incidents, abnormal runs and/or system problems.
As instructed by Supervisor place service calls to Lottery support staff and various service contractors to report problems.
Maintain security within the jurisdiction of the Computer Operations Department including physical access, equipment and media protection.
Complete checklists, logs and reports with accuracy including daily balance sheets, media alert forms, special report messages, etc.
Process Lottery drawings by entering and verifying winning numbers, distributing results to media outlets, update masslottery.com website and customer information phone database. Ensure dual authentication of inputted & recorded data.
Participate in multi-state draw processing via conferencing and VPN reporting.
Retrieve stock of forms and paper from warehouse and maintain sufficient stock supply in warehouse and computer room, keeping both areas neat.
Create tapes containing critical Lottery data files, label, log and store accurately.
Transport data files for off-site storage and restore systems at backup data center in accordance with Disaster Recovery procedures.
The events of certain circumstances, i.e. State of Emergency, Lottery need, etc., may determine this position to be considered as "essential".
Perform related duties as assigned.
Computer Operations experience in a Transaction Processing environment.
Associate Degree in Computer Science, education in computer field and/or data processing experience.
Willingness to learn, and ability to comprehend computer concepts as applied to Lottery systems and procedures such as IBM / LENOVO, WIN OS, IVR, DYNAM, ZEKE, JCL, CICS, TCP/IP, FTP, MUSL CARS/DRS, UNIX / LINUX, VM WARE / VIRTULIZED ENVIRONMENTS, VSE, EFT, TIVOLI, XEROX, SOLIMAR, UPS shipping, Lottery networks and terminals, website updates, etc.
Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
Ability to deal with a multiple tasks and constant deadlines in a calm and collected manner.
Ability to operate data processing systems and peripheral equipment including printers, tape drives, document & barcode scanners.
Knowledge of software desktop applications such as Outlook, Excel, Explorer, Chrome, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Ticket & work tracking applications.
Knowledge of Lottery products, operations, policies and procedures.
Physical work requiring the ability to lift 50 lbs, i.e., loading paper m printers, tape retrieval, report distribution.
Excellent attendance, punctuality, reliability and dependability is essential.
Ability and willingness to share knowledge with less experienced operators.
Flexibility in scheduling and assistance with providing coverage outside of one's own shift is desired.
Must maintain a valid state issued drivers' license.
