The Executive Office of Technology Services and Security (EOTSS) is the state's lead office for information technology. We provide enterprise level information technology services including: network management and security; computer operations; application hosting; desktop provisioning and management; and, modern and responsive digital services to 40,000 internal stakeholders plus the residents, business owners and visitors to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Role:

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Technology Services and Security (EOTSS) is seeking to hire a Computer Operator to join our Data Center Operations team supervised by the EOTSS Operations Shift Supervisor. The Computer Operator will be mainly responsible for monitoring all workload schedules, backup jobs and Infrastructure health. The Computer Operator will monitor executing batch workflows and verifies all are processing as expected. Additionally, the computer operator will appropriately manage the process from failure through resolution for submitted incidents and will accurately document within the Service Desk system. The incumbent will also be assisting in the creation of procedures and process enhancements that are affecting operations.

The work schedule for this position is 3 nights per week. The hours are 18:00 07:00.

The scheduled nights will be consecutive and will rotate once per year.

Responsibilities:

  • Satisfies user requests if required in matters concerning the operation of all enterprise and mid-range servers.

  • Monitor Common Help line off hours and escalate issues as required.

  • Provide quality customer service when responding to customer calls and or customer e-mails.

  • Assists in maintaining documentation of jobdoc, systems and applications.

  • Participates in Disaster Recovery testing as required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in an IT operational environment. Public sector experience a plus.

  • Working knowledge of electronic data processing principles, techniques, systems and standard operating procedures.

  • Proven knowledge and experience in managing a ticketing system. ServiceNow preferred.

  • Working knowledge of JCL (Job Control Language).

  • Working knowledge of the automated scheduling systems.

  • Ability to monitor and control the operation of electronic data processing equipment such as computers and mid-range equipment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Team-oriented attitude and the proven ability to collaborate at all levels of an organization.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or other related field, or equivalent work experience.

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

Minimum entrance requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in electronic data processing work, the major duties of which included the operation of the console of a computer and/or the peripheral devices used in support of computer operations, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. An Associate's degree or higher with a major in the field of data processing may be substituted for one year of the required experience.*

II. A diploma for completion of a one year full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized non-degree granting business or vocational/technical school above the high school level with a major in the field of data processing may be substituted for one year of the required experience.*

III. An official transcript from a recognized business or technical/ vocational school as evidence of completion of a program consisting of at least 650 hours of instruction in computer programming/operation may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

IV. Graduation from the data processing course of a recognized vocational/technical high school may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

  • Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Perform Form ID, Batch Review and Rescan functions on Fairfax. 6. Process documents on a flatbed Fujitsu and Kodak scanners. 7. Assists in the transport and storage of batches in workflow. 8. Slice on the Omation 306 slicing machines all inbound mail directed to the processing division. 9. Key/edit various returns on Fairfax and GeniSys on line systems. 10. Basic computer skills and general knowledge of Microsoft applications. 11. Assist in all processing duties based on operational needs and goals set by the department.
