Computer Manager 2 -Networking & Card Access

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

The Computer Manager manages network structures, servers, custom databases, individual workstations, including 550+ admin users, email workstations, student computer labs, smart classrooms, coordinates network security, user training and related documentation, coordinates development and maintenance of custom applications, supervises student workers, provides user support to admin staff and all Residential RESNET clients, and expand/coordinates student access to technology resources, provide two full service technology Help Desks for ResLife. Oversees and manages all on campus housing card access security software and hardware for online and offline interior / exterior common doors and interior room entrance doors (4000+ locks). The Computer Manager 2 co-manage 21 student workers. May perform duties of other Information and Security Services staff in their absence and train staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

45% Manage the support of custom security applications and databases for the online security card access system (1500+ Doors), offline security card access key locks (2000+ doors). Design security systems for new construction and upgrades for existing implementations. Coordinate staff access and use of these applications and databases.

Replacement and troubleshooting security systems hardware in all residence halls. Emergency 24/7/365 on-call coverage for the on campus housing security system and manage computer analysts on call 24/7/365 on-call coverage. Coordinate and monitor data exchange between departmental servers and other campus computers. Ensure health of Reslife Active Directory, reports and interfaces.

15% Manage, support, provide coordination, & direction to ResLife ISS team to implement, develop, maintain, upgrade and support hardware/software for 15 + physical and 20+ virtual servers, and ResLife Data Storage, and hypervisors. Implement, maintain, support, develop and administer best practices for both physical and virtual servers, network security, data handling, procedures and methodologies.

Work with Networking & Security manager to Implement/design/maintain/test data backup & disaster recovery methodologies. Manage network communication lines, installation/upgrade/maintenance of technology equipment, & print server integration

15% Co manage help-desk and workflow of the Residential Life two Help Desk Call Centers, supervises one FTE (Computer Analyst 3) and 21+ student workers, and act as a lead for directing tasks for FTE staff. Work with operations manager to handle managerial accounting of student computer technicians. Creation and implementation of technology and card access training for staff and students. Ensure professional development of student computer technicians and staff. Monthly reporting and auditing of workflow as well as documentation and support for technical wiki repository. Supports / administrative / paraprofessional / residential college faculty and staff (550+)

Assist the Office of Telecommunications on issues relating to phone, data circuits, wireless technologies and ITS on issues relating to Computing Services support of our operations and projects to integrate the ITS help desk systems with Residential Life operations.

10% Send and receive card access equipment for repair and maintenance issues to vendor. Assist the Office of Telecommunications on issues relating to phone, data circuits, wireless technologies and ITS on issues relating to Computing Services support of our operations and projects to integrate the ITS help desk systems with Residential Life operations.

Coordinate training of staff in use of network applications. Prepare documentation to supplement material supplied by vendors.

5% Quality Control: Is accountable for ensuring every aspect of the IT/IS outputs including human resource decisions, administrative task, programs/services/events/experiences, and all communication excludes a high degree of quality. Embraces and executes the marginal gains approach and seeks to increase level of all services, events, programs, and experiences in department for continuous improvement every academic year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 years' experience

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in SQL Server, System Management Server, ESXi Server management, Storage Area Networks, and group policy management. Excellent understanding of Computer hardware and Networking..
