Libraries Technology and Computer Operations (Lib TACO) provides IT solutions and support for the UNT Libraries. This includes staff workstations and software, student computer lab workstations, printing, esports & gaming, design and maintenance of lab facilities, makerspace initiatives, electronic resources, and things yet to come.

Position Overview

This position is one of a team of supervisors who co-supervise and are responsible the organization and coordination of the daily functions of the Spark a rapidly evolving environment within the library that blends library services with hands on integration of innovation and emerging maker resources to support academic and hobbyist learning at UNT. The Spark contains a 40+ student team with the responsible for staffing multiple locations, events, and outreach.

The Spark in Willis is operational 24 hours a day, including weekends, during all long semesters. While the branch locations have hours in line with the building and business demands of the given location. This position maintains the working atmosphere of the service desk and makerspace including customer service, circulation services, equipment and supplies.

Knowledge of library functions and duties such as collection maintenance and preservation, website maintenance and basic to advanced troubleshooting of technology and specialized equipment will be expected. Works with co-supervisors, library staff, UNT campus support units and the management team for complex problem solving and upgrade recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field and one year of related computer experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires extensive management skills and computer experience. Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department.

Knowledge of computer software and hardware commonly used in the computer lab including operating systems. Ability to operate computer keyboards and to install computer hardware. Ability to train and supervise student employees.

Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Ability to setting priorities and moving several tasks forward simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supervising a team with diverse goals, team dynamics, as well as coordinating a shared workspace

Developing and maintaining accurate and quality consistent training standards

Curriculum development experience

Proven customer service experience

Maker mindset - comfort with taking educated risks, excitement to pilot new ideas, research best practices, and reflect on the experience for continuous improvement

Prior experience enforcing and applying safety standards

Prior experience creating with digital and fabrication technologies

Ability to quickly learn new pieces of technology, including digital fabrication equipment and design software

Strong communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly through various methods including: written, oral, web, video, and social media

Experience taking a leadership role in teams, demonstrates an open, collaborative leadership style

An effective collaborator, team builder, and instructor who is skilled at leveraging the talents of others and solving problems.

Ability to plan and carry out complex schedules for program areas of different sizes.

Ability to take the initiative, work independently, and troubleshoot in a fast paced, work environment

Strong organizational and time management skills

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties:

  • This position is responsible the organization and coordination of the daily functions of the Spark with a focus on the technology and specialized hardware. Is second tier support for all specialized hardware in all Spark locations. As part of the supervisory team for the Spark responsible for oversite of the parttime staff including, hiring, training, and development as is appropriate.

  • This position will work closely with several distinct teams to determine technical changes to the Spark and assists with implementation of any upgrades/updates, while ensuring technology meets operational needs.

  • This position maintains accurate inventory records and assists forecasting endpoint replacement/support life cycles.

  • All responsibilities are inclusive of proactively seeking out issues, resolutions, new approaches to procedures.

  • Ensures that documentation is kept up to date for the Spark. Updating policies and procedures to up to date

Work Schedule:

1pm-9pm T-R, 11-7 F/Sat some nights and weekends/on call as needed
