Provides interactive and motivational workshop facilitation to HRA CareerCompass participants. Focus areas include resume preparation for all clients, ONET Career Exploration, sector-based overview and other client-based self-assessments, to develop and enhance clients' skills in preparation for training and educational activities, job placement, internships or other engagement activities in the HRA Career Pathways model. Provides support to the Orientation and Instruction team for coverage of orientation and workshops as needed.


  • Facilitates computer resource room workshops for program participants on such topics as: resume preparation and writing, using email, basic online job search navigation, self-assessment, and introduces on-line tools that are used in a group setting. Assessments workshops topics include: interest, skills, values, etc.

  • Responsible for creating and updating resumes, and cover letters for all enrolled clients within 10 days of enrollment. Identifies immediately job ready clients and refers them to Internship & Placement Coordinator.

  • Assists with workshop coverage as needed utilizing prepared curricula and appropriate training materials, integrating vocational concepts and employment activities in a classroom setting.

  • Conducts interactive facilitation allowing for questions, comments and discussion from clients.

  • Integrates relevant on-line computer sites and available tutorials to supplement and enhance classroom instruction.

  • Complete administrative tasks including copying, scanning, and documenting client work and progress in Web Based Systems including Credible and NYCWAY.

  • Integrates relevant on-line computer sites and available tutorials to support and enhance classroom instruction.

  • Maintains contact with Career Services Coordinator to track and update client progress.

  • Attends and participates in meetings, staff development sessions and in-service training as assigned.

  • Associates Degree required with at least 3 years related work experience.

  • Bachelor's Degree in education, vocational rehabilitation or social-service related field preferred. Bilingual a plus, not required.

  • Experience working with public assistance population.

  • Experience working in employment services or in social service-related field.

  • Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to motivate and engage clients.

VIEW JOBS 1/8/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-08T00:00 Overview We are looking for individuals with exceptional ability to motivate and lead groups of young adults, and strong experience facilitating learning activities in group settings. Moreover, assistant facilitators are expected to model and apply principles from cognitive behavioral therapy and strength-based youth development approaches in all interactions with participants, as well as fellow staff. Individuals with experience working with justice- and gang/crew-involved youth is strongly preferred. The Business Lab Program: The Business Lab is a pilot program set to launch in Brooklyn serving young adults ages 18-24 who have been impacted by gun violence. This program will empower participants to develop skills related to business and entrepreneurship and pursue alternatives to violence. The program combines professional skill-building with elements of cognitive behavioral therapy, and will include training in essential interpersonal skills and entrepreneurial mindsets; access to career opportunities through technical skill training; and the ability to apply learnings in a real-world setting. Additionally, Business Lab participants may develop a collection of multimedia messages that can be shared throughout the community, reinforcing anti-violence and empowerment themes at the individual and community level. The program is being piloted in Brooklyn from late fall 2018 through May 2019. The Business Lab is being designed by ideas42, a nonprofit that uses behavioral science to create innovative solutions to tough social problems, in partnership with several New York City-based organizations. The Assistant Program Facilitator Role: Assistant program facilitators will play the leading role in implementing this pilot program. Assistant facilitators will: * Deliver the customized behavior-change and professional skill-building curriculum to Business Lab participants over the pilot period. The total participant cohort may range from 20-30 individuals, with 5-15 participants per group session. * Lead multiple group sessions per week on-site in Brooklyn, provide on-site support and coaching to Business Lab participants outside of formal sessions, and provide off-site support for a limited caseload of participants throughout the program. * Devote an expected average of 20 hours per week during the pilot period. Hours will be dependent on cohort size and may vary. Reports to: Program Coordinator – Academic Career Enrichment Program (ACE) Location: 301 Vermont St, Brooklyn, NY 11207 Hours: 20 hours/week; Non-Exempt. This is a project-based role expected to last November 2018 – May 2019 Responsibilities of the role include: Group Facilitation and Training * Facilitate group discussions and lead interactive activities using the program curriculum. This will include communicating behavioral concepts to participants in a compelling way while staying true to the curriculum. * Lead interpersonal skill and employability training, including lectures, role-plays, and exercises. Field questions about job expectations and provide guidance. * Maintain a productive environment for participants before, during and after sessions by managing participant dynamics, responding to situations as they arise using appropriate trauma-informed approaches. Youth Engagement * Develop rapport with individual participants and foster positive group dynamics across program activities that reinforce a positive learning environment. * Provide individualized on-site coaching during program operating hours, potentially including evenings and weekends. Coaching will include helping participants develop personal goals and achievement plans and regularly checking in on their progress. * Maintaining contact with a select caseload of participants outside of regular session hours via text, calls, and/or visits to support program engagement and help participants address barriers to successful participation as they arise. Program Management * Participate in weekly coordination meetings with program staff to share progress and ideas for improvement, and to raise challenges or resource needs. * Track participant engagement and progress using program assessment tools. * Build relationships of trust and mutual respect with participants and staff. * Learn the goals and concepts behind the program approach, along with each program session and activity. Required Qualifications: * Demonstrated ability to motivate and coach young adults * Experience teaching or facilitating groups using a structured curriculum and materials * Comfort working with vulnerable youth, justice- and gang/crew-involved individuals * Ability to practice approaches derived from cognitive behavioral therapy in all interactions with participants and staff and use appropriate conflict management/crisis intervention approaches * Dedication to helping individuals reach their full potential, regardless of their background, and strong commitment to improving the community * Strong organizational skills to manage participant progress, ongoing outreach and support needs * Flexible schedule with ability to work evenings and weekends on-site in Brooklyn * GED or equivalent * Computer literacy and comfort with Office suite Preferred Qualifications: * Associate degree or higher in related field (social work, youth development, counseling, teaching) desired * Experience working with vulnerable youth, justice-involved individuals, and individuals involved with gangs/crews.
