Job Summary

Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is seeking a full-time Computer Information Systems (CIS) Residential Faculty. This position will begin in August 2024.

This CIS faculty position focuses on teaching hands-on skills, abilities, and knowledge in Information Technology. The desired faculty member will provide instruction and conduct classes in accordance with the goals and philosophy of the CIS Department and their teaching focus will be in the Database and Application Development programs of study. Additional knowledge in networking/cybersecurity, applications, and/or web/graphics is desirable.

As a champion for Database and Application Development, this faculty member will maintain content expertise, develop curriculum and plan course sequencing, oversee technology needs, select course materials, recruit students, and interface with industry partners. This position may include teaching both credit and non-credit classes.

To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus, with the possibility of partial remote work depending on business needs.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise and instruct students in a classroom, lab, or off-campus setting.

  • Develop instructional materials, curriculum, syllabi/course outlines, evaluation tools, and oversee technology needs.

  • Help to prepare and select adjunct faculty members to teach content.

  • Develop and maintain business relationships with local employers to establish a workforce channel for student internships and eventual employment.

  • Remain current with new trends and developments through attendance of conferences, courses, seminars, and/or workshops.

  • Maintain academic support hours and participate in departmental, college, and district committees and projects.

  • Evaluate knowledge of the subject matter taught and monitor student's scholastic records.

  • Integrate and develop technology-based educational delivery systems to instruct a diverse population of students.

Minimum Qualifications

The Occupational Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university:

1.A master's degree in the teaching field, OR

a master's in any teaching field with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in the teaching field, OR

A bachelor's degree plus three (3) years occupational experience in the teaching field, OR

An associate's degree or at least sixty-four (64) semester hours and five (5) years occupational experience in the teaching field, OR

Five (5) years occupational experience in the teaching field.

AND

2.Employment and/or Academic Documentation will need to be provided. Documentation from current or prior supervisor or employer detailing years of experience in the field.

Desired Qualifications

A. Minimum of three (3) years development experience using relational database design (including ER Modeling and normalization), SQL, and program units to build and deploy databases using MS Access and server-based platforms (e.g., Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL).

B. A minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in the field of CIS at the community college or university level.

C. Occupational experience in Application Development (Systems Development Life Cycle, UML, and computer programming fundamentals) and/or programming experience using C#, Python, Java, or VB.NET.

D. Demonstrated proficiency in Windows OS and MS Office 365.

E. Experience developing and teaching online courses, and teaching new, emerging IT courses.

F. Experience working with, interacting with, and instructing, individuals of diverse abilities and/or cultural backgrounds.

G. Experience working in a team environment.

Special Working Conditions

  • Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.

  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to other MCCCD locations.

  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
