THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a COMPUTER ASSISTANT (Title 32), Position Description Number D1680000 and is part of the IL DCSIM, National Guard.

Responsibilities
As a COMPUTER ASSISTANT (Title 32), GS-0335-5/6/7, you will provide advanced technical services in applications programming; system administration; database administration; installation and maintenance of hardware; and installation, upgrade, and maintenance of software.
Major Duties
Provide support to information technology (IT) specialists by performing coding, testing, and limited programming for a variety of applications.
Maintain documentation and program databases.
Receive and process requests to write, upgrade, or modify small program modules which are part of a larger system of interrelated programs that have previously been designed and implemented.
Solve problems and responds to requests to advise on issues related to defining information requirements, desired formats, and the amount and kind of data combinations and arithmetic manipulation required.
Verify that all equipment attachments and power support items are approved and are in compliance with existing regulations, directives, and vendor specifications.
Document user computer equipment and supply requirements for their procurement.
Record the temporary and/or permanent transfer of hardware.
Research current industry literature to identify the availability of equipment such as computer systems, printers, monitors, modems, and/or associated equipment.
Maintain stocked parts to ensure prompt service and arrange for replacement parts.
Independently identify the work to be done, plan, and carry out the steps necessary for developing applications programs using higher level programming languages, providing for variations in recurring runs and special reports.
Work with IT specialists to accomplish complete component testing/validation of hardware ranging from user items to resident host system.
Maintain, interpret, and write portions of operating equipment and user manuals and instructions.
Develop new and/or modified procedures for the operation of the software library and configuration management procedures.
Install or remove software packages to include operating system, office automation, and special purpose software.
Assist customers in the application of system capabilities when the customer has unusual or unique processing requirements that are difficult to formulate.
Advise and assist users inside and outside of the immediate organization in the effective operation of numerous software packages and the use of all available equipment.
Prepare operating procedures and recommend automated methods for better use of resources.
Assist in the administration of a variety of databases maintained in the state residing on multiple hardware platforms.
Work with a System Administrator in troubleshooting problems and implementing changes on multiple, widely diversified computer platforms.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

This is an IAT 1 position and the Cyber Role is 411- Technical Support Specialist.
Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code 709), will be in the following manner and sequence,
The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.
Military Grades: Enlisted
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience, training, or education which demonstrates your ability to follow directions, procedures, or systematic work methods; experience using computer and automation systems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-07 Level- Must possess specialized experience which includes at least 12 months experience working with computer languages, codes or abbreviations, performing production control functions, coordinating work load priorities and scheduling multi requirements, identifying and tracing processing failures; experience performing specialized projects and assignments using knowledge of fundamental data processing methods, practices and techniques in work involving development, test, implementation and modification of computer programs and operating procedures. GS-06 Level- Must possess specialized experience which includes at least 9 months experience receiving, maintaining and issuing data storage media for computer operations; experience in scheduling the use of computer time for program processing; experience collecting and sequentially staging input media with associated program instructions for processing; experience in at least one programming language. GS-05 Level- Must possess specialized experience which includes at least 6 months experience receiving, maintaining and issuing data storage media for computer operations; experience in identifying errors caused by system malfunction; experience identifying standardized data processing rules, operations and procedures enabling employees to resolve common or recurring problems.

This is an IAT 1 position and the Cyber Role is 411- Technical Support Specialist.
If you are using Education to qualify for this position, Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience for GS-5 positions.
You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.
