Job Summary:
The CT Technologist is responsible for performing CT examinations and all related duties to provide care to patients for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders. This position requires working with patients of all ages under the supervision of the Imaging Services Director and Clinical Coordinator. The CT Technologist must maintain a high quality of patient care, practicing sterile techniques and preventing cross-contamination to patients and instruments. The incumbent must also keep the room and work area neat and orderly, maintain and rotate supplies/inventory, and organize, plan, and direct activities relating to patients and procedures for designated area/room.
Job Requirements:
Graduate of Radiography Program or enrolled in Radiography Program
Satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training in an AMA approved school and able to meet the requirements for registry/certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
Must keep up registry requirements, including continuing education credits
Excellent customer service skills
Must have the ability to work under stressful conditions or during irregular hours
Some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids
Some exposure to radiation
Essential Functions:
Maintains a high quality of patient care
Greets and introduces self to patient and describes nature and time requirements of requested exams
Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination to patients and instruments. Sets up special trays
Keeps room and work area neat and orderly. Maintains and rotates supplies/inventory. Keeps work area stocked
Organizes, plans and directs activities relating to patients and procedures for designated area/room
Identifies problems and communicates to the imaging leader; offers solutions as appropriate
Checks order for special instructions. Furnishes radiologist with the patient's history on assessment form. Completes all paperwork where applicable. Scans into PACS
Maintains good working relationship with radiologist--communicates/consults with radiologist regarding examinations as necessary
Performs specific duties requested by the imaging leader with a good attitude
Attends regularly scheduled departmental meetings, staff in-service education, and training programs
Assumes responsibility for proper and efficient operation of all the CT equipment used; reports malfunctions and the need for adjustments or repairs to the service engineer
Adjusts technical factors in proportion to patient and body being examined while minimizing radiation
Assists in the movement of patients to and from wheelchairs and carts onto the table in CT
Performs all CT exams according to departmental procedures and policies
Performs office procedures in absence of clerical personnel
Assists radiologist in administering prescribed radiolucent or radiopaque contrast medias for simple or complicated exams
Is dependable when on call for 24-hour departmental coverage
Works with and assists radiological students, transfers, and observation
Participates in continued quality improvement program
Practices AIDET with everyone
Functional Demands:
Must be able to handle and lift patients with a full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
May occasionally need to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds
Must have corrected vision and hearing within the normal range
May be required to work under stressful conditions or during irregular hours
May have some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids
May have some exposure to radiation
