As a member of our Assay Development team, the Computational Biologist will be a champion of statistical rigor in experimental design and analysis, developing analysis templates and models to accelerate the development of novel diagnostic assays, using a broad knowledge of statistical tools and techniques. You will use your experience in applied statistics to help the team design experiments and studies that will test functional hypotheses, model assay behavior, identify promising candidates and components in screening assays, optimize the performance of candidate assays, and develop tools to measure and assess assay performance. You will use a data-driven approach to improve assay development processes and increase efficiency of the development team.
Apply knowledge of statistics to experimental designs and analyses
Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize assay and product performance
Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets generated by the assay development team
Ensure analysis methods used are compliant with regulatory requirements
Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy
Interface with assay development scientists to provide feedback on current analytical methods
Work with stakeholders throughout the R&D team to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive assay and product decisions
Build and develop process improvements for data organization, processing, and storage across the R&D team
Interface with software development scientists to deploy improved algorithms to proprietary IVD platform
Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques
Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes
5-7 years of industry experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models with a Masters or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another quantitative field.
Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development in the biotechnology field - experience with developing diagnostic biological assays a plus
Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL, JSL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets
Experience working with and creating data architectures
Experience developing and delivering analytical packages for submission to FDA
Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks highly desirable
Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications in all stages of product development from proof-of-concept through validation, manufacturing and QA/QC
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams
A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques
Experience communicating with stakeholders across a wide variety of backgrounds including microbiology, biochemistry, software, and engineering
Knowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques
Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages
Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using: JMP, Tableau, Periscope, Business Objects, etc.
