Job Functions/Responsibilities:
Responsible for driving, operating, emptying, cleaning and performing basic maintenance such as greasing, replacing filters and parts, and minor repairs on compostable waste collection trucks on routes, special requests, and for special events such as football games
Drives trucks with or without attached trailers and packer trucks that may require a CDL to collect raw material feedstocks for UT Compost Facility to include food waste, manure, animal bedding, animal mortalities, leaf waste, woodchips, and other varieties of landscaping debris
Responsible for ensuring student driving assistants are properly trained and are practicing safe driving, material collection habits, and delivery habits
Responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of finished compost to UT affiliated growers
Informs growers on the proper uses and applications of compost within various growing settings
Operates heavy equipment at the UT Compost Facility to include but not limited to excavators, skid steers, backhoes, screeners, dump trucks, dump trailers and other compost processing equipment and vehicles as needed to clear space for driving responsibilities, and performs basic maintenance to the equipment including greasing, replacing filters and other parts, and simple repairs
Responsible for driving passenger vehicles, including buses, if required for tours and special events at the Compost Facility
Cleans bins, docks, vehicles, and other related infrastructure to ensure appropriate conditions at all pickup locations on campus
Speaks with students, staff, and faculty on campus interested in learning more about compost operations at UT
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Safe driving and equipment operating skills
Ability to read, write, and follow detailed instructions, both written and verbal
Computer and smart phone skills
Ability to follow road signs and drive heavy loads safely
Ability to perform moderately strenuous work activities
Ability to work independently for up to 8 hours
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
2 years' experience driving large trucks or trailers
Must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within one year of employment
