Component Design Release Engineer

Job Responsibilities

Your specific duties as a Component Design Release Engineer will include:

  • The Module Brackets Design Release Engineer is a key position within the Electrical SMT responsible for packaging electrical components and designing a robust attachment mechanism for those components for vehicle programs.

  • It is a Mechanical Engineering position within the Electrical Product Development Team.

  • The Module Brackets Design Release Engineer will be part of the Bracket Team which was established as the centralized group to release brackets required within the Electrical SMT.

  • This opportunity will require the employee to interface with colleagues around the world.

  • The position entails working closely with Vehicle Program Teams, other Product Development engineering groups such as Interiors/Powertrain/Body/Chassis, Design, Purchasing, Supplier Quality and Manufacturing.

  • Creates Statement of Requirements for various Brackets

  • Provides program-specific requirements for Bracket sourcing process

  • Provides technical background in Bracket supplier technical reviews

  • Maintains consistency of effort for the entirety of program - Knows the Bracket Statement of Requirements, program issues and their effect on timing plan, etc. and manages design/timing/execution details when changes are required

  • Leads Bracket Product Development Teams

  • Leads/Participates/Supports meetings with vehicle program teams and engineering/manufacturing/purchasing peers around the globe

  • Ensures that the design, development, and release of the Bracket(s) are robustly integrated within the vehicle architecture with quality and on-time

  • Manages the cost, quality, mass, etc. for the respective bracket(s), ensuring a robust yet cost-efficient and mass-efficient design

  • Communicates, coordinates, and consults with other engineering departments, suppliers, and internal customers for overall engineering activities

  • Supports Pre-Production build events including both physical and virtual builds

  • Participates in interface tradeoffs and resolves integration issues

  • Provides assembly plant launch support

  • Provides technical support for solving assembly plant problems

  • Generates and develops technical solutions to complex problems

  • Implements engineering changes

  • Releases parts for production

  • Plans and implements test and/or development activities

  • Initiates and evaluates cost studies

  • Assists benchmarking analysis to support innovation, tradeoff or cost/benefit analysis

  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products

  • Travels as required

  • Identifies and schedules training needs accordingly with manager approval

Component Design Release Engineer

Job Requirements

As a Component Design Release Engineer you must represent our company well by being responsible, punctual and motivated to go above and beyond the call of duty. You must also be highly detail-oriented and organized with excellent analytic and problem-solving abilities. It is also important that you display excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Candidate should have one of the following engineering degrees: BSE, BS in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aeronautical Engineering, Physics, Materials Engineering

  • 8 years' experience in job-related area

  • 6 years' experience in packaging and bracket design/engineering (and/or other structural components)

  • 4 years' experience in Design Release Engineer role

  • 4 years' experience participating in DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) activities

  • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)

  • Familiarity with DFSS (Design For Six Sigma) process

  • Familiarity with CAE methods/processes

  • Familiarity with Vehicle Development and Production Launch process

  • Knowledge of plastic materials, processes, and tooling

  • Knowledge of metal materials, processes, and tooling

  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms

  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required

  • Ability to multitask by handling diverse assignments concurrently

  • Self-starter and self-motivated

  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles, teamwork skills, and communication methods to work effectively with cross-functional and cross-cultural business partners to meet mutual goals

  • Specific knowledge of engineering discipline (e.g. mechanics, structures, physics, metallurgy, manufacturing methods, electronics, control systems) within job-related area

  • High level of oral and written communication skills

  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others

  • Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related area
