Compliance Specialist

Position Summary

Oversee and support the geothermal power plant, well field and drilling operations environmental and regulatory compliance for federal, state and local requirements.

Essential Functions

• Strictly adhere to and enforce all safety procedures as required by Ormat, state, federal, and local agencies.

• Ensure existing permits and programs are compliant with regulatory agencies.

• Formulate and maintain regulatory database and compliance tracking systems.

• Respond to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, spills, or related emergencies.

• Provide support, oversight, and tracking for required environmental/regulatory training programs.

• Provide periodic reports to customers and Government agencies as required by regulations, permits, and contracts.

• Conduct environmental inspections of facilities.

• Recommended and implement corrective actions and ensure timely completion.

• Formulate and perform compliance training.

• Maintain a working knowledge in underground injection control programs, hazardous materials, wastes, universal and solid waste, water and air quality, underground storage tank programs, emergency contingency plans, spill prevention, control and countermeasure, stormwater pollution prevention plans, asbestos management, PCB compliance, project mitigation.

• Be an active member of the Operations and Safety Improvement Team and assist in safety program activities.

• Must be able to operate a vehicle in a safe manner

• Other duties and projects as assigned by management.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

• A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or the environmental sciences or equivalent related work experience.

• A minimum of 3 years experience associated with geothermal power plants, well field and drilling operations.

• Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and use of the Internet.

• Must be able to read, write and speak English at a level which will permit the employee to accurately understand and communicate information to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.

• The ability to work well individually or in a team-oriented environment.

• Must have organizational skills, a focus on detail, quality control, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities quickly according to circumstances.

• Must be able to operate a vehicle in a safe manner.

• Must possess at any time a valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT's auto insurance carrier.

Physical Requirements

• The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor and use repetitive motion for long periods of time.

• The ability to occasionally lift 35 pounds.

• Must be able to climb ladders, climb to and work off of elevated platforms, ladders and walkways.

• Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties including fire retardant clothing.

• Job requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping, and kneeling.
