Under general direction, assists the Office of the County Tax Assessor-Collector Office with evaluation and oversight of tax revenue and payments. Ensures adherence and compliance to established laws, ordinances, policies, and procedures and that include compliance with existing State law. Your work will contribute to maintaining accurate venue tax collection and upholding the integrity of the tax payment process.

  • Assists Bookkeeping with Hotel and Short-term car rental venue tax payments, as well as beer and liquor County tax payments.

  • Conducts regular inspections of all financial records related to the venue's tax obligations.

  • Collects and compiles data from a variety of sources in the preparation of reports of a financial or statistical nature as directed, maintaining EXCEL spreadsheets as required.

  • Detect discrepancies, errors, and anomalies in submitted Venue tax payments, taking prompt corrective actions.

  • Develops assessment criteria and schedules in consultation with the County Tax Assessor-Collector and Finance Manager.

  • Coordinates inspection reports with management, reviews and communicates management's response, monitors corrected actions and follow-ups for reviews.

  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes and work cooperatively with co-workers.

  • Reviews work-papers, ensures inspection findings and recommendations are appropriately supported and prepares associated reports.

  • May perform other duties as assigned to maintain operations in the bookkeeping area.

  • Connect and follow up with Hotels and Short-term car rentals.

  • Supports County policy and procedures.

  • Navigate through Granicus software - sending letters, record payments, setting up new locations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and/or at least 2 years of experience in governmental accounting or auditing and have a valid Driver's License.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Understanding of financial accounting principles and practices, including bookkeeping, record-keeping, and financial reporting. Familiarity with auditing techniques and methodologies, including the ability to conduct financial audits, identify potential tax fraud or evasion, and make recommendations for improvements. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to review and interpret financial records and other data to identify potential discrepancies, errors, or fraudulent activity. Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records and other documents. Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously. Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality, particularly with respect to sensitive financial information. Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing Excel and Word software.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Maintain the ability to frequently stand, walk up and down stairs, kneel, and bend during the work period. Reach, grip and use fine dexterity. Push and pull objects. Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to, 50 pounds, such as books, file boxes and stacks of records. Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing; place arms above, at or below shoulder height. Use of vision and depth perception required to include color vision. Work is in a warehouse environment and an office workspace. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Frequent standing and/or sitting for long periods of time.
