About the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA):

The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA) is the umbrella agency for 38 professional boards and commissions that regulate approximately 480,210 professionals and businesses licensed to perform approximately 195 different occupations. IPLA licenses professions are set in statute by the Indiana General Assembly. The governor appoints members of the oversight boards and commissions, and staff navigates the details and provides customer support to administer licenses of almost half a million working Hoosiers.

Salary:

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $47,320. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

Role Overview:

The Compliance Officer conducts inspections and investigations of licensed Indiana facilities. You will ensure that all facilities are properly licensed and operating under safe and sanitary conditions as required by Indiana Board statutes and rules. You will protect the health and safety of the citizens of Indiana by providing quality, efficient service to all professional licensees, applicants, and the public.

This position covers a geographic area in west central Indiana that includes Clay, Clinton, Fountain, Hendricks, Montgomery, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Tippecanoe, Vermillion, Vigo, and Warren counties. Residence in the service area is highly preferred.

A Day in the Life:

The Compliance Officer will be responsible for conducting and/or coordinating the following activities and other projects as assigned by the Compliance Director.

  • Communicate with agency customers including applicants, licensees, board members, state, federal, and local officials, and the public.

  • Prepare and file Consumer Complaints against licensees or unlicensed persons and businesses with the Attorney General's Office and serve as a witness as required.

  • Enforce compliance with laws, statutes, and rules of various boards or commissions regulating the licensing of professional trades and businesses licensed by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency with accurate knowledge of all rules and statutes involved.

  • Research advertising, files, records, statutes, and rules to ensure proper licensing and compliance under the jurisdiction of the Board of the Professional Licensing Agency.

  • Investigate complaints from the public, regulatory agencies, businesses, or licensees regarding alleged violations or irregularities of licensing requirements or professional conduct.

  • Review contracts.

  • Inspect assigned facilities. New and routine inspections will be conducted for cleanliness and proper ventilation/equipment sanitation to ensure operation within the required guidelines.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Six (6) years of work experience in program coordination; development; implementation; or accredited college training in a related field.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to manage resources in an effective manner.

  • Ability to write coherently and accurately.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Preferred knowledge of State and Federal laws, rules, regulations, and requirements (comparable knowledge of Indiana Criminal Code or other regulations acceptable).

  • A valid driver's license and driving record that allows them to operate a state vehicle.

  • Able to pass an FBI criminal background check.

  • Basic knowledge and experience in inspections, investigation processes, performing audits, compiling corrective action plans, and reporting mechanisms.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

  • Ability to be a credible witness in court cases.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
