The Compliance Officer will be a member of the Consumer and Commercial Lending Compliance team within Compliance Risk Management. The Compliance Officer will provide support to the Marketing and Consumer Product Management lines of business by researching, interpreting and assisting with applying the related laws and regulations. As subject matter expert, the Compliance Officer will provide consultative advice, perform oversight activities and assume responsibility for mitigating and discouraging actions that may expose KeyCorp and its affiliates to risk outside its desired risk appetite.


  • For assigned lines of business, serve as the corporate subject matter expert for all compliance risks.

  • Develop relationships of trust and confidence with the designated lines of business.

  • Provide oversight and monitoring of line of business processes and controls.

  • Proactively identify process improvements or control gaps and facilitate necessary associated changes.

  • Keep abreast of new laws and regulations.

  • Assist with regulatory compliance exams.

  • Assist with corporate policy and training development.

  • Educate and provide consultative advice on related regulations.

  • Provide independent review and challenge on various line of business activities.

  • Participate in or lead various projects related to mitigating risk to Key.


  • Bachelor's Degree required; substantial industry experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree; Juris Doctorate or CRCM preferred.

  • 3-5 years of experience as a financial services compliance professional, bank regulator or other comparable legal experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the regulatory requirements related to marketing consumer credit products, development of new credit products and maintenance of existing products.

  • Experience working with Regulation Z and UDAAP

  • Ability to comprehend and interpret federal and state laws that apply to marketing and product management.

  • Strong relationship management and leadership skills.

  • Candidate must possess the wherewithal and flexibility to undertake new functions/tasks as the Compliance Risk and line of business evolves and grows.

  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.

  • Sound decision-making skills; able to make decisions independently and quickly.

  • Solid written and oral communication skills.

  • Sound understanding of compliance risks.

  • Strong research skills coupled with strong problem solving/analytical skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

Coordinate as directed by the Chief AML Officer or designated AML Compliance Team manager, the dissemination of regulatory compliance regulations, related laws and guidance to Key's lines of business (LOBs) to ensure corporate-wide compliance with regulatory requirements. * Position can be filled in Cleveland or Buffalo Essential Job Functions * Act as a compliance relationship liaison, concentrating on developing close partnerships with others in Risk Management, LOBs, marketing, legal and other support, administrative groups to identify and mitigate compliance risk. * Work with steering committees, working groups, task forces, other Compliance and governance teams, and LOB partners to identify and manage compliance risks with assigned regulatory topics. * Act as corporate Subject Matter Expert resource for complex Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulatory requirements, this includes, but is not limited to, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). * Effectively partner and establish trusted relationships with LOB contacts, senior level management, the law group, marketing and others, regarding corporate-wide compliance issues. * Perform complex compliance tasks as assigned. * This includes, but is not limited to, merger and acquisition activities, contract reviews, compliance risk mitigation strategies, new or existing system and/or operational implementation. * Lead the research, interpretation, summary and corporate guidance for new and changing financial institution laws and regulations Design, communicate & evaluate AML Compliance policies and procedure standards for financial institution laws & regulations Interact with regulatory agencies and the Risk Review group, to respond to examination information requests, address exam findings, and responding to comment letters. * Collaborate with Compliance & Control to establish or enhance compliance self-testing, validate testing results and address issues noted in testing. * Participate in the Risk and Control Self Assessment process. * Collaborate with the Chief AML Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, AML Compliance Managers, LOBs and LOB RISC Officers on compliance issues, initiatives and projects. * Provide sound judgment and decision-making with regard to client due diligence and enhanced due diligence reviews. * Manage (non-violation related) regulatory issues for the corporation to ensure sustained resolution. * Provide senior managers with reports and information for the purpose of day to day follow-up on open compliance issues, decision-making, tactical objectives, and strategic planning. * Participate in new business initiatives (i.e., Business Initiative Risk Assessment) and due diligence activities to ensure compliance risks are appropriately identified and mitigated Special projects/other duties, as assigned. Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in business, finance, legal or related field. * 7 years experience in banking, compliance or audit related activity. * Strong research, analytical, and problem solving skills. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including group and executive presentations and meeting facilitation. * Well developed relationship building skills. * Broad knowledge of banking and financial products and services. * Common office skills including knowledge of personal computer applications (e. g., Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Lotus Notes) copier, and facsimile devices. * Communicate effectively Comprehends compliance laws and regulations. * Demonstrated business organizational savvy (e. g., organizations structures, formal management channels, working with informal organizational networks). Preferred Qualifications * Solid understanding of monetary card instrument programs (e. g., credit cards, ATM and Debit cards, and prepaid cards), including roles and responsibilities of Operating Institutions, Acquiring Institutions and Issuing Institutions. * Understanding of emerging payment methods, technologies and the related compliance risks. * Sound knowledge about banking/business organizational structures and understanding of how to get things done through formal channels and informal networks. * Experience in vendor management for outsourced or relied upon business processes related to AML compliance topics. * Understanding of risk and control self assessment, including the GRC/Archer system. * Experience with OFAC compliance and/or OFAC screening processes.
