Embrace Excellence

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this newly created role aims to establish a strong compliance function in a high-risk region, ensuring that the company operates with integrity and in full compliance with internal & external regulatory requirements.

The Compliance Officer India will be responsible for providing compliance and regulatory advice and support to the India leadership team. Additionally, he/she will be responsible for the implementation and execution of the compliance program and controls, as well as supporting regulatory affairs.

A key focus will be to collaborate with the various other local functions to instil a proactive, compliance-first mindset across all levels of the organization & to be the eyes and ears of Edrington on the ground ensuring the highest standards of compliance.

The role reports into the Chief Operating Officer with a matrix reporting line to the Legal & Compliance Officer MEAI. The role will collaborate closely with the Global Legal Team and Risk & Compliance team.

Make an Impact

  • Execute the India Compliance Program and perform regular controls, reporting findings to senior management and global legal. Where compliance vulnerability and / or risk is identified, collaborate with global teams to develop, and implement corrective actions for resolution to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future. Generate and implement new ideas to enhance existing internal controls.
  • Ensuring local policies are up to date, aligned with group policies and local laws, reviewed at appropriate intervals and embedded within the region
  • Driving awareness and compliance to Compliance & Legal procedures & policies through regular communications & support the delivery of legal compliance and regulatory training in the region (such as Gift & Entertainment, Anti-Bribery & Corruption, Anti-Money Laundering, Fraud, Politically Exposed Persons, Third-Party Risk Management, Competition & Anti-Trust, Data Privacy, Marketing Compliance, Permanent Establishment)
  • Act as key point of contact for compliance related matters in the region, providing practical advice to employees of all levels (such as marketing compliance in India, digital/social media compliance, permanent establishment). Act as the primary point of contact in response to any compliance related regulatory investigations or enquiries
  • Attend relevant Trade Association steering group and report to the Leadership Team and Legal & Compliance Officer MEIA
  • Execute due diligence processes for Third-Parties (such as marketing vendors), monitor third-party risks and review reputation alerts. Escalate any concerns or red flags to the Leadership Team and Legal & Compliance Officer MEIA for further assessment
  • Ensure Third-parties compliance awareness and attendance to relevant training (e.g. marketing, anti-bribery and corruption)

Your Talent and Skills

To take on the challenge of this role you will hold a Law Degree and qualification to practice in the region and have existing experience of working within India handling compliance & regulatory matters, preferably gained in a compliance or regulatory role either within a top-tier law firm or in-house within a global brand-led business. You will possess sound business judgment and have a track record of giving practical advice by balancing business needs with risk exposure.

You will be able to make sense of ambiguity and provide clarity and guidance on compliance related matters in a clear and accessible way, both verbally and in writing. Working collaboratively to build strong rapport with internal stakeholders will be a second nature to you and you will have the confidence to work autonomously and in collaboration with the Legal & Compliance Officer MEIA. You will demonstrate an high level of integrity and ethical judgement and attention to details. Given the global nature of our business, fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
