The Compliance Monitoring Manager is a member of the Corporate Compliance leadership team (second line of defense) and leads compliance professionals, programs and initiatives that help the company identify, assess, escalate, monitor and manage emerging compliance risks. Compliance risks in scope include but may not be limited to, consumer protection, operational (people, process, systems) and regulatory compliance.
This position requires work in support of the Company's contract with the United States Department of Education ("ED"). As such, the United States Government requires that any applicant for this position must complete United States Government security clearance. Effective June 1, 2018, ED has informed Nelnet that security clearance applications for foreign nationals are not being accepted or processed. ResponsibilitiesRecruit, train, manage, motivate, and develop Compliance Monitoring associates within the Corporate Compliance area (second line of defense).Continuously improve and mature the management of compliance risks across all business segments within Nelnet, by directly managing Corporate Compliance and Monitoring associates and acting as an advisor to support teams and individuals across Nelnet with compliance responsibilities and issues.Collaborate with business segment leaders and Corporate Compliance professionals to identify and assess compliance risk; Facilitate and challenge the results of first line compliance risk and control assessments.Ensure compliance risks related to new systems, processes, products, and services are identified, assessed and proactively reviewed or tested when appropriate.Collaborate with business segment (first line of defense) compliance functions to plan and communicate risk-based compliance testing schedules, on an annual basis.Review and professionally challenge quality checks (QC), testing results, and testing attributes, ensuring top compliance risks are quality checked and tested, acting as an advisor to improve business line controls.Aggregate and monitor compliance testing and QC results for trends and escalate moderate to high risk concerns to the appropriate levels of leadership.Validate that control weaknesses identified through QC, compliance testing, review, and examinations are tracked, properly evaluated, prioritized based on risk, responded to, and closed. Evaluate duration of time to close and escalate concerns to the appropriate level of leadership.Track, monitor and research the root cause of control weaknesses identified by internal and external auditors to identify opportunities for improvement with first line of defense compliance controls (QC, compliance testing and remediation processes).Create and present compliance risk reporting tailored to the relevant audience (i.e. Board of Directors, senior management, Risk and Compliance management committees).Collaborate with business line compliance functions and teams, helping them to implement effective and compliant solutions to issues, automate controls and effective ongoing monitoring.Actively participate in the resolution of customer incidents, including any that invoke the Customer Incident Response Plan or the Corporate Escalation and Communication Plan and Policy.Coordinate with the Corporate Compliance team to analyze industry concerns, including consent orders, civil investigations, lawsuits, etc., and ensure proper review is provided to protect our customers and our business lines.Obtain and maintain appropriate professional certifications and continually expand knowledge of industry related regulatory requirements, contract requirements, compliance risk management and monitoring best practices.
Bachelor's Degree in related field. Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) or related certification preferred.
5+ years in risk management, governance or compliance related field.
