Compliance Investigator 1 - Underfill

The Position

Compliance Investigators perform investigations regarding violations of federal and/or State laws or regulations pertaining to a specific State program or regulatory area such as public assistance, real estate, insurance, employment discrimination or sexual harassment. The investigative process is initiated following a formal complaint or suspected violation utilizing standard investigative techniques. Incumbents are not sworn peace officers, and enforcement actions are limited to the specific program or regulatory area and involve informal resolution and/or recommendations for administrative sanctions or penalties which are imposed by a higher authority.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

This is a Compliance Investigator 1 underfilling a Compliance Investigator 2 position with the Dept. of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Compliance Enforcement Division located in Las Vegas. Incumbents will be responsible for overseeing the automotive industry within Nevada.

Investigators perform inspections of the businesses regulated by the Nevada DMV in order to monitor compliance and detect violations of the State of Nevada Statues and Administrative Codes. They are also tasked with business licensing enforcement, conducting background investigations for certain business license applicants, investigating complaints, and collecting facts in order to facilitate the determination of whether an entity or individual has committed any violations. They are responsible to prepare concise written reports of investigative findings and recommendations as they relate to the applicable statutes/codes.

These Investigators will also be required to testify at Administrative Hearings and be expected to travel related to inspections and investigations is 50% of the time. Under the authority of NRS 239B.010.1(b), the DMV utilizes NRS 205.4605 - 205.810, NRS 293.504, NRS 293.5045, 6 CFR 37.45, 49 CFR 1572.103, and 49 CFR 384.228 as criteria to obtain a FBI fingerprint clearance check on current and prospective employees.
