Position Summary

The Compliance Director will report directly to the Executive Director, Compliance. This position will enhance and maintain all elements of an effective Corporate Compliance Program globally, including policies, training, monitoring and investigations with specific focus on FCPA/UK Bribery Act, FDA regulations, fraud and abuse laws, OIG guidance and the PhRMA Code. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing ongoing advice regarding the Corporate Compliance Program by supporting employee questions and concerns, and he/she will partner and collaborate with members from sales, marketing, medical affairs, legal, and business operations for all compliance related activities.The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, including presentation capabilities, interpersonal skills and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Build upon and maintaining a Corporate Global Compliance Program, including drafting and reviewing policies, developing and providing training to all employees, establishing a monitoring system as needed, and investigating and maintaining records for employee investigations.

  • Help determine appropriate risk-benefit strategy and tone for compliance-related activities.

  • Working closely with other members of the Legal Department and Company stakeholders to establish proper strategic direction for compliance policies and programs.

  • With the General Counsel and Sr. Compliance Counsel and other Executive Leadership Team members, help develop a Company risk management program.

Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent required. JD from a nationally recognized law school with strong academic credentials a plus.

  • 5+ years of experience in an in-house compliance management role in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry or experience in a large to mid-sized law firm or consulting firm.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the required elements of global compliance programs, including enhancing a compliance function. Experience in designing, building and implementing key components of a successful compliance program in a pharmaceutical/medical device company a plus.

  • Manage and shape the global data privacy program.

  • Effectively work with regional counsel to implement and manage compliance initiatives globally. Experience managing compliance programs in Europe and Latin America a plus.

  • Demonstrated senior leadership skills, including decisiveness, ability to analysis and define risk, and ability to appropriately communicate decisions to cross-functional groups and personalities

  • High level of business ethics.

  • Ability to maintain an independent and objective perspective while developing and maintaining a strong partnership with the client organizations.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

  • Well-organized and hardworking, with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.

  • A high level of intellectual, professional and interpersonal agility and flexibility, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to form strong working relationships with partners and employees while maintaining firm adherence to proper legal standards.

  • Team oriented, with a good sense of humor, sound judgment, self-motivation and willingness to take initiative.

  • Domestic and International travel required (20%).

Position Summary ultracurious - Apply your biggest ideas in courageous ways Ultragenyx is seeking a highly motivated individual, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Business Development and Alliance management, for the role of Senior Director/Director, Business Development and Alliance Management. The person in this new role will be primarily responsible for managing key collaborations with external partners. In addition, the person will support business development activities including search/evaluations, due diligence, and execution of transactions for potential partnership, licensing and/or acquisition deals by Ultragenyx. This role will work with and lead teams comprised of multiple functions, including research, development, manufacturing, commercial, legal and finance in order to effectively manage the alliances. This role will have high visibility across the organization and have influence over corporate strategy. Responsibilities, including but not limited to: * Specifically, the Senior Director/Director, Business Development and Alliance Management will: * Manage the life-cycle of collaborative agreements and partner relationships * Ensure that key partnerships proceed to their goals efficiently, effectively, and in a timely fashion * Operate in "white space" of issues that no one else owns * Leads issue/topic resolution to assist program teams/company for the long-term benefit of the program, alliance and Ultragenyx * Proactively contact prospective partner companies and maintain collegial, ongoing relationships * Manage governance meetings * Execute amendments/agreements as needed to ensure continued success of the program/alliance * Track diligence requirements (financial and non-financial), progress reports and budgets * Support due diligence assessments, negotiations of term sheets and contracts as needed * Effectively communicate to senior management on progress, issues, and status of collaboration programs and alliances Requirements: * MS or PhD and proven experience in the pharmaceutical/ biopharmaceutical industry. * 10 years + experience in biopharmaceutical Development and BD/Alliance management of external programs. * Experience in managing cross-functional teams for preclinical, clinical and commercial stage programs. * Strong understanding of and experience with the clinical and regulatory aspects of specific specialty and/or orphan disease areas.
