As an Accident & Health (A&H) Compliance Director you will be responsible in managing regulatory compliance of programs, initiatives, products, UW, and claims and recommends and directs implementation of rules, guidelines and procedures for all A&H group product lines. Directs, and is responsible for product line compliance analysis. Manages and is responsible for reviewing and responding to, and for root cause analysis of, all A&H group product line complaints. Monitors, analyzes, and advises senior management regarding regulatory requirements and changes therein, and recommends process and procedure updates as laws and regulations change. Directs process and procedure audits as necessary. Acts as main contact for Enterprise compliance support services relating to A&H Group product line, including privacy, OFAC, anti-fraud and SIU, and training. Advises senior management regarding risk levels and recommends product updates as regulations change. Manages relationships with external agencies on compliance and reporting issues.
Keeps up-to-date on state regulations and evaluates impacts to business. Responsible for managing and overseeing the processes and procedures for products, marketing, distribution, underwriting, claims, and complaint resolution, for the A&H group line.
Manages overall compliance audits for the A&H group product line.
Ensures established guidelines and procedures are in compliance with all applicable insurance laws and regulations, including ERISA, tax, and insurance laws and regulations.
Oversees coordination with other internal departments to determine impacts of legislation on current processes and internal systems.
Evaluates compliance of existing programs and procedures plus the development of new initiatives within the group product line to achieve desired business objectives and goals.
Provides support for negotiations with external agencies/organizations, such as law firms and state insurance departments, regarding sensitive and/or complex issues.
Manages Sarbanes-Oxley control testing, documentation, and improvements.
Partners with group product teams to explore and analyze product line information to identify opportunities, to develop or enhance new group products, services, pricing strategies etc.
Supports the development of underwriting policies, guidelines, standards and procedures within state regulatory compliance.
Reinforces Corporate Compliance and GRM Compliance objectives.
Leads compliance activity, communication and monitoring for the A&H group product line.
Assists as time permits with the individual A&H, Worksite, Affinity, and other compliance responsibilities.
Depending on experience this position can be a
Compliance Manager or Compliance Director
Bachelor's degree in Legal/Political Science/Insurance and experience with regulatory compliance for group insurance products. J.D. and bar admission strongly preferred.
Minimum 7 to 9 years of experience.
Solid knowledge of ERISA and insurance laws, rules, and regulations required
Advanced analytical/ problem solving and research skills
Excellent project management, process improvement, written and oral communication, presentation, analytical and management skills also required
Ability to influence Senior Management
Works with both internal and external contacts to assess regulatory and industry compliance trends and, where appropriate, work with Public Affairs staff to provide input on proposed regulatory changes.
