Compliance Coordinator

Job Description Summary

The Compliance Coordinator is dedicated to a regional market (i.e. Orangeburg) for the Medical University Hospital Authority/Medical Center. This position reports to the Charleston Compliance & Privacy Manager in assisting the Director of Compliance with executing their respective programs.

This position objectively manages and oversees dozens of service line directors and managers who additionally serve as functional compliance liaisons. As an independent and objective agent to these functional liaisons, the Compliance

Coordinator conducts regular meetings to monitor, evaluate, and resolve, if necessary, compliance questions, concerns, and audit deficiencies, as well as addresses applicable rules and regulations.

Job Description

More specifically, the Compliance Coordinator: (1) assists with the annual risk assessment, (2) remediates facility-specific compliance concerns; (3) develops and/or administers on-going compliance education; (4) conducts and/or oversees a variety of auditing and monitoring of activities, 5) researches and responds to compliance related questions; (6) stays abreast of and communicates changes to applicable regulations; (7) develops and oversees the functional compliance liaisons and their respective workplans; (8) facilitates and responds to any third-party compliance investigations; (9) presents applicable data and feedback to the necessary councils, committees, and other forms of leadership, and (10) maintains the compliance database for all site-specific activities conducted.

Additional Job Description

Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of two years of medical billing coding experience or high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and four years of medical billing coding experience required; college degree preferred.

Preferred applicant will be credentialed as a coder by a nationally recognized accrediting body and certification must be maintained, i.e., CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-H. RHIA or RHIT preferred.
