Role Value Proposition:

Within MetLife (Company), Corporate Ethics and Compliance (CEC) delivers a compliance risk framework that enables the businesses and functions to comply with applicable internal and external rules and regulations and maintain risk levels within MetLife's risk appetite. CEC provides constructive challenge to the US Businesses and MetLife Holdings (Business) and functions, partnering closely with them to implement strong processes and effective controls, as well as to foster and embed a culture of compliance.

We are seeking a highly motivated Compliance Consultant responsible for coordination, maintenance, and enhancement of important Compliance programs for gifts & entertainment (G&E), political contributions, and customer complaints for the Business and supporting groups. This Compliance Consultant will also support the broader U.S. Compliance organization on an as needed basis. Success in this role is dependent on the development of positive working relationships with a wide range of colleagues both within and outside of CEC. This position requires excellent judgement, attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to prioritize workload in a complex, fast-moving environment. The candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. The candidate is also expected to maintain confidentiality and exhibit a high level of discretion and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently reviews G & E submissions and political contribution disclosures for compliance with regulatory requirements and Company policies.

  • Collaborate with cross functional partners such as Government Relations and Legal Affairs to ensure regulatory requirements and Company policies are being met for Compliance programs.

  • Support U.S. business units responsible for customer complaints to ensure complaints are handled, tracked, and reported in accordance with regulatory requirements and internal processes.

  • Responsible for required internal and regulatory reporting regarding political contributions, G&E, and customer complaints.

  • Develop and enhance compliance policies, systems, and tools to support the various Compliance programs as well as ongoing compliance oversight.

  • Provides ongoing education through training to US Business management and associates, as needed, on regulatory and Company guidelines, policies, and procedures as well as provide ongoing advice on best practices with Business partners.

  • Provides technical advice on how to implement new procedures/best practices to support U.S. Compliance.

  • Utilizes technology including data analytics to improve compliance systems and processes.

  • Prepares and understands reports and metrics for management.

  • Leads right-sized initiatives within Compliance.

  • May guide less experienced Compliance analysts and peers.

  • Leads initiatives to develop enhanced compliance tools and programs used to enhance identification of compliance risk

  • Identifies, monitors and tests key controls including but not limited to customer complaint time service and root-cause trending. Identifies potential discrepancies with regulatory time service requirements, resolves the issue with Business management or escalates to U.S. Compliance management as needed.

  • Communicates results of compliance reviews to senior compliance managers and Business leaders

  • Work on special projects and assignments as requested.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • 5+ years of relevant compliance, risk management, legal or audit experience, preferably with a strong focus on developing and maintaining core compliance programs

  • Strong understanding of the regulatory environment surrounding MetLife business activities and operations

  • Knowledge of Company products, services, operations, systems and transactions

  • Strong oral and written communication with the ability to build relationships throughout the Company.

  • Ability to engage in complex problem solving and analytical thinking as required.

  • Proactively find solutions to issues with an ownership mindset.

  • Ability to create an atmosphere for open dialogue and to adapt to communication style appropriately for the needs of the audience

  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft suite of products, including Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint and Excel

  • Demonstrated commitment to expand knowledge and to adapt to new situations and changing environments

  • Ability to research independently and work collaboratively

  • Must be highly motivated, adaptable to change, and detail oriented
