The person in this role will be a key "face of compliance" within MITG. This individual will work closely with the MITG businesses to develop and execute program strategy and risk management activities (e.g., risk assessment, training, culture), utilizing COEs and shared services as support. This individual will also resolve moderately complex remediations (e.g., Investigations, OL, monitoring) and ensure implementation of those remediation plans. They will also be responsible for identifying and advising on moderately complex compliance questions from the business, including novel initiatives with potential impact at the enterprise level. Finally, this individual will also serve as a compliance change champion, must be known for leading with integrity, and making and communicating courageous decisions.
A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Individual contributor with indirect team responsible for managing compliance program with changing or undefined controls and activities. Includes responsibility for compliance program performance, communication of compliance plans, objectives and milestones, and the overall compliance program plan, including prioritizing and/or directing responsibilities of other employees and/or vendors.
With little to no direction from senior leadership, manages strategy and oversees one or more large compliance projects.
Problems and issues faced are complex, difficult, and undefined and require detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation to understand.
Develop new objectives, new operating policies, products, processes and standards in support of the compliance program strategy.
Anticipate and drive necessary changes in compliance team's strategies, processes and activities to account for shifts in the regulatory enforcement environment and/or changes to the business model.
Participate in complex risk assessment for business initiatives, prioritizing compliance issues based on risk profile. When significant issues are identified, work with COEs and other functions and business partners to generate new ideas to enable compliance solutions to business objectives.
Proactively partner with mid to senior business leaders to drive ethical culture, enhance risk identification and mitigate risks.
Provide leadership and guidance on business programs, identify moderately complex compliance issues, analyze alternatives and work with business to develop and implement solutions.
Execute on culture and training / comms initiatives for business.
Actively engage with business partners to understand and provide proactive compliance guidance on the development and execution of proposed strategic and tactical initiatives.
Assist with remediation follow-up (moderately complex/complex only).
Serve as "Voice of Business" and linkage to/from Compliance Function, including Regions (e.g., BU strategies/context, issues, needs, priorities).
Support pilot programs, as delegated by NBM team.
Overall: Maintain/understand business relationships and proactively mitigate risk while encouraging agility, connectivity, and accountability between the business and Compliance.
Execute compliance initiatives at Business (e.g., risk assessment, culture, training).
Ensure remediations adequately and timely resolved.
Positive net promoter scores (TBD).
Delivery of agreed upon programs (e.g., x # of trainings delivered to business, culture initiatives) per G&O.
Leads medium-scale compliance programs activities, potentially impacting Group or Corporate level process and procedures.
Develops new compliance program activities, which may impact Group or Corporate compliance policies, Group or Corporate-level training programs, Group or Corporate auditing/monitoring plans.
Compliance program decisions are generally recommended to mid-senior level management.
Facilitate the prioritization of system changes identified by the project team to improve compliance program efficiency and/or program effectiveness.
Communicates and leads meetings with internal and external customers and vendors.
Influences across functions and businesses while balancing divergent objectives to gain cooperation of other parties on project team's objectives and execution plans.
Understand business goals, complex and market specific challenges and tailor compliance programs, advice, and/or guidance to effectively mitigate risk based on those business factors.
Travel, up to 20% of the time, will be required.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

Relevant experience handling compliance and/or legal issues with a focus on anti-kickback, healthcare provider or medical device compliance, and sunshine/transparency requirements.
Demonstrable understanding of compliance environments and ability to work effectively with multi-divisional teams in different locations to ensure compliance.
Typically has mastery level knowledge and skills within a specific area of compliance (functional or compliance risk area) with broad understanding of the requirements of an effective compliance program and how such programs operate within Medtronic.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong working relationships, involving multiple business functions, units, and/or geographies.
Proven execution under pressure and maintain positive, enthusiastic attitude.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships within a matrixed environment.
Ability to identify high risk situations and provide appropriate guidance, including the ability to make courageous and unpopular decisions.
Ability to make an impact at all levels of employee and management groups to build working relationships to enable the implementation of the compliance program.
Prior compliance oversight of complex systems responsibilities preferred, as well as experience in the healthcare industry.
