The Complex Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Specialist is the first point of contact for operating personnel for questions, assistance and direction in the execution of HSE related management systems.

  • The HSE Specialist is accountable for the safety and environmental performance of the complex.

  • The HSE Specialist works closely with operations and maintenance personnel to assure that day-to-day activities are being conducted in a safe and compliant manner while driving continuous performance improvement and efficiency.

  • The HSE Specialist is the first point of contact for all HSE issues in the complex and provides critical input for developing HSE procedures and HSE training.

  • This role suggests HSE improvements for not only the complex, but for the Whiting Refinery and may impact several other BP locations.

  • This position ensures HSE incidents are appropriately investigated with lessons learned embedded.

  • This position performs environmental screening of all MOC's for the complex .

  • This position leads L2 HITRA (Risk Assessments) for the complex.

Ultimately, this role will support and coach in the field to deliver HSE improvement plans, ensuring new requirements are appropriately embedded in systematic and in control processes / procedures.

General Summary The Safety Representative is responsible for evaluating field safety conditions through auditing and monitoring, and advising company management on findings. This position is responsible for coordinating, communicating, and maintaining TEAMs safety programs, and ensuring that both company and client safety rules and governmental safety requirements are enforced at the jobsite. Essential Job Functions * Maintains a safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to Company/Customer safety standards and practices and to legal regulations, alerting others regarding potential hazards or concern * Performs all duties as assigned and adheres to TEAM's Core Values. * Provides direction to jobsite supervisors in safe work practices on the jobsite. * Resolves safety concerns in the field in a timely manner. * Communicates with management and clients providing updates on safety activities. * Manages employee safety training program and maintains program records ensuring that all employees have successfully completed pre-employment and ongoing required trainings. * Performs routine safety inspections on the jobsite and documents all safety inspection activities. * Investigates, reports, and follows-up on all work related injuries and accidents. * Manages the distribution of personal protective equipment ensuring that all employees are equipped with the appropriate protection. Job Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent preferred. * One (1) to three (3) years of industry related experience preferred. * Previous safety experience preferred * Travel Requirements: 0% - 25% Work Conditions * Position is based out of a branch or site location. * Field duties require indoor and outdoor work in a plant atmosphere * Interaction with other crew employees, as well as supervisors and client personnel * Working in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels * Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection * May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes * May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis Physical and Mental Requirements * Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds * Must be able to walk and climb except when performing non-field duties * Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits employee to communicate effectively * Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodations, which permits employee to investigations * Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permit the employee to perform routine office duties * Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodations to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations * Sufficient personal mobility to maneuver within a refinery or plant environment to include the ability to gain access to elevated platforms via ladders and stairwells * Ability to maintain focus and multitask effectively * Excellent communication skills This job description is intended to indicate the kinds of tasks and levels of work difficulty required of the position given this title and shall not be construed as declaring what the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position shall be.
