We are looking for a Competitive Intelligence Analyst to join the competitive intelligence team and provide actionable intelligence about key competitors in a dynamic and highly competitive market.

This role will require both technical and marketing savvy as well as a good understanding of the software sales/buying process.

Position details:

Main job responsibilities include:

  • Research: stay current on market and competitors and monitor the news/marketplace, on a daily basis. Undertake specific research projects, build areas of expertise and share knowledge with team members.

  • Competitive analysis: perform research and analysis on specific competitors: market presence, product offerings and capabilities, sales strategies and relevant dynamics. Gain a deep understanding of some of Alteryx's key competitors and build winning competitive strategies.

  • Content development: develop competitive briefs, product reviews, battle cards, enablement materials and presentations for different audiences (product teams, sales, pre-sales, marketing, executive team, partners) with the appropriate level of details.

  • Product management: keep up with product direction and product. Identify and communicate portfolio gaps and market observations on a regular basis.

  • Sales support: Assist sales in competitive situations by making recommendations on sales strategies and by highlighting the benefits of Alteryx vs competitive offerings. Participate in sales calls and on-site visits to help account executives close deals, if needed.

  • Global enablement: regularly deliver presentations - live or virtual - on market and competition, including new hire training.

  • Product marketing: experience bringing a product to market or being part of an organization that does

  • Comply with ethical standards in obtaining and disseminating data

  • Willingness to travel: 20% travel estimated


  • Must have:

  • BA / BS Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent

  • 5+ years' experience in consulting, product marketing or product management in fast paced environments

  • Content development skills using Microsoft Office suite a critical requirement

  • Technical background but also strong business acumen

  • Ability to leverage research to develop competitive strategy and tactics

  • Excellent analytical skills. Must be comfortable seeking out and piecing together fragments of information, extrapolating, recognizing patterns and drawing conclusions from partial data

  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to efficiently multi-task

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to explain complex concepts both concisely and simply

  • Team player with a demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams and collaborate on deliverables

Nice to have:

  • Alteryx experience strongly preferred as well as expertise in least one of the following markets:

  • Data management,

  • Business Intelligence & Analytics,

  • Data science.

  • Competitive analysis experience not a pre-requisite but will be considered a strong plus

VIIGR directly supports faculty spatial research projects through in-kind grants of consultation by the analyst in this position. The research analyst will therefore work on diverse spatial research projects including, but not limited to, topics in earth and environmental science, public health and epidemiology, educational policy, civil engineering, economics, political science, sociology, history, and anthropology. The ideal candidate will have an MS/MA in a geospatially-related field (PhD candidates will also be considered) with a strong background in one or more of the following areas: spatial statistical analysis, spatial modeling, cartography and visualization, remote sensing, geospatial database administration, and GIS software development. Experience with one or more programming languages, especially Python and R, is necessary. Experience with machine learning algorithm development is especially desirable. BS/BA level applicants with requisite professional experience may also apply. The Vanderbilt Initiative for Interdisciplinary Geospatial Research (VIIGR) is a Trans-Institutional Program focused on supporting and expanding collaborative geospatial research and teaching at Vanderbilt University. VIIGR is housed in the Spatial Analysis Research Laboratory, an advanced geospatial facility with nine workstations, servers, and spatial field equipment. VIIGR also hosts an annual geospatial symposium, keynote, and other events. Duties and Responsibilities * Act as a consultant for developing and aiding in the execution of geospatial research projects * Work directly with faculty in formulating appropriate geospatial methodology and aid in the execution of projects * Work extensively with geospatial and remote sensing software, including ArcGIS, QGIS, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, GRASS, ENVI. Workflows will incorporate scripting with Python and analysis with R and other statistical software. * Survey geospatial research and teaching needs on campus * Recruit new collaborative geospatial projects * Manage the Spatial Analysis Research Laboratory equipment including hardware and software for workstations, laboratory server, and field equipment * Act as the basic server administrator and consultant for all laboratory issues, upgrades, equipment, etc. * Act as basic consultant for student spatial research projects * Assist in logistics for VIIGR-sponsored symposia, speakers, and other events * Perform and maintain accounting * Report directly to VIIGR PI Profile of an Ideal Candidate * Bachelor's degree in a geospatially-related field is necessary. * Previous experience is preferred. * Master's degree in a geospatially-related field is preferred. * Applicants with a PhD in a geospatially-related field will also be considered.
