Position Objective

The Compensation Specialist is responsible for ensuring the company's compensation program enhances the company's ability to attract and retain talent. The individual in this position is also responsible for overseeing and maintaining the job descriptions and the compensation philosophy.


  • Partner with hiring managers to understand job roles

  • Evaluates jobs utilizing the job analysis to determine essential job duties and minimum requirements; evaluates the organizational structure, employee utilization and internal/external benchmark comparators and makes a recommendation as to the appropriate pay range for the position.

  • Assist managers in preparing and maintaining job descriptions, job analysis, job evaluations and job classifications to define job levels and families

  • Benchmark positions against market and provide recommendations on salary offers and promotions

  • Conduct on-going compensation based research through available benchmark surveys to determine competitiveness

  • Assist in the development and delivery of total reward statements

  • Coordinate and prepare employee communications with regard to compensation

  • Research, analyze and organize salary data into meaningful data and presentation material, draw sound conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations

  • Consults with all levels of management on the administration and interpretation of Compensation programs, policies and procedures, and legal requirements

  • Serve as a back-up for payroll processing, bonus calculation, and special pay requests

  • Ensure company compliance with provisions of federal and state laws and regulations, including reporting requirements

  • Other responsibilities as assigned

  • Must be able to ask appropriate questions that uncover underlying issues

  • Ability to consistently meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines

  • Strong knowledge of HRMS software

  • Ability to demonstrate objectivity in decision-making and the ability to maintain confidentiality of all employee data and matters

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Human Resources or related field preferred

  • 5+ years related job experience required

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) preferred

  • Understanding and application of U.S. laws and regulations, including FLSA

  • Previous HRMS experience is required, preferably Ultimate Software

  • Advanced Excel skills required

VIEW JOBS 4/13/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-12T00:00 Position Objective The Property Specialist is responsible for supervising all Property claims being handled by Claim Reps and Claim Adjusters within their Regions. This position also handles large property losses in excess of $100,000 and supervises Catastrophe events and Cat Team Members. This position will not be a resident position but sit in the Pekin Parkway Office. Responsibilities * Handles all litigated property files, attends examinations of involved parties and trials * Handles all larger Fire claims, Mine Subsidence, Boiler and Machinery claims, commercial equipment breakdown claims * Coordinates and oversees Cat Team members for catastrophe storm claims * Conducts monthly property file audits of each service office assigned and reports findings * Answers and responds to Department of Insurance complaints regarding property claims * Fields questions from adjusters, examiners, agents, and insureds regarding property coverages and claims * Assists adjusters and examiners with unusual or unique property losses * Reviews and monitors legislation concerning property coverages and inform claims staff of any changes that affect the handling of property claims * Coordinates claims involving the exchange of information per state immunity statutes * Travels to Service Offices in assigned area * Inspects and estimates losses to Dwellings, Commercial Buildings, Personal and Business property and calculate the Loss of Use, Business Interruption, and extra expenses * Other duties as assigned Knowledge * Ability to prioritize, maintain deadlines, and take ownership of situations * Ability to work with people, work under stress, and respond to emergencies * Ability to travel frequently and work as a team member or independently * Ability to lead, oversee, and supervise the activities of others; plan, organize, and schedule the activities of staff; ability to develop and train staff * Ability to listen, define, write, explain and interpret ideas and policies * Ability to inform and consult with both staff and customers * Must be able to keep business matters confidential and exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions * Technical writing skills will be required to respond to complaints as needed Education * Bachelor's Degree with 7 years property claim experience preferred * Must have property computer estimating experience * Experience assigning, delegating and directing the work of others Working Conditions * Subject to different conditions depending on the claim, including working in various weather and environmental conditions that may include wet/humid conditions. working in high places, working near fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and working in outdoor weather conditions that could include extreme cold or heat. * May be required to work a flexible schedule Monday-Friday, with some late duty and possible rotating weekend and holiday shifts as necessary * Must be able to travel with overnight stays 1-2 times per month on short notice Pekin Insurance Pekin IL
