The Compensation Consultant is responsible for managingclient projects that focus on broad-based and executive compensation topics, aswell as job/career architecture, talent management and Human Resourceseffectiveness. The Consultant willcreate deliverables and provide direction to analysts and associates, while servingas a primary client contact on projects, and writing/reviewing clientpresentations that include meaningful conclusions for review by seniorconsultants on the team.

To fulfill this role, the Consultant will:

  • Prepare client deliverables such as translating business needs to client programs, benchmarking analyses, gap analyses, HR/workforce program designs and development, and related findings, analytics and recommendations

  • Manage client projects by:

  • Preparing project charts and templates using project management tools, estimating hours for the project team, and preparing timelines for project milestones

  • Serving as an independent project manager for more straightforward projects or modules

  • Ensuring client projects adhere to budget by immediately addressing out-of-scope issues or budget overruns and managing client expectations

  • Prioritizing project activities to manage the workload and meet project deadlines.

  • Delegating project tasks in line with individual capability, development needs and available analyst and associate resources

  • Writing engagement letters including project steps for senior consultants' review.

  • Leading client project status meetings

  • Serve as a primary client contact and build relationships with clients; conduct client interviews, facilitates focus groups, and delivers training; responsible for the technical part of client presentations to HR and management, for ongoing client relationships; schedule meetings with clients and issuing client data requests

  • Write and review client PowerPoint presentations/reports including Excel exhibits and initial data conclusions; work closely with senior consultants on project to determine the exhibits to be included in the final client presentations

  • Write project proposals and answers to Requests for Proposals; suggest project extensions based on existing work; attend sales calls

Develop new tools and templates that can be leveraged inmultiple markets; deliver standard training programs; ensure intellectualcapital generated within own projects is captured and available for others;proactively contribute to personal learnings, insights and knowledge throughthe knowledge management forums

  • BA/BS degree required including significant coursework in finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, human resources (HR) and/or accounting, or equivalent work experience preferred

  • Minimum 3-5 yrs. relevant work experience in management consulting, compensation, finance, human resources or accounting preferred; project management experience; experience in data analysis, financial modeling and presentation design

  • Experience in executive compensation programs a plus

  • Excellent project management, organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail

  • Strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative, and a strong background in Excel

  • Flexibility, adaptability and the ability to work under tight deadlines or changing client needs

While this individual will not be functionally responsible for Benefits, this person will need to work closely with the Director of Benefits to ensure a "total rewards approach" to planning and communication. This individual will conduct analyses and make recommendations – related to base pay and support the development of annual incentive and long-term incentive plans – to assist in attracting, retaining, rewarding, and motivating talent across VCA. This individual will provide guidance and consultation on internal equity, as well as job families, classifications, salary progression, and supervisory and technical promotional models. This person oversees all market pricing activities to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness. This person will work cross-functionally with other leaders within Operations, Finance, Payroll, Human Resources, Recruiting, and other departments to execute projects and initiatives. Initial Focus As this is a new role, the Senior Manager of Total Rewards will initially focus on the following: * Inventory and review our current compensation policies and practices – base pay, merit, commission programs, allowances, stipends, bonus programs, and other various incentive programs * Build effective compensation communication tools for both existing and new employees * Provide guidance and hands-on support of Workday Compensation plans and on-going enhancements to compensation-related business processes and approval routing * As determined by the CEO and VP of Corporate Human Resources, will support any compensation-related transition activities with Petcare and Mars Inc. * Provide analytical support to key Total Rewards projects and proposals (i.e., minimum wage analysis, etc.) On-going Accountabilities The Senior Manager of Total Rewards will serve as the point person for all of VCA's total rewards / compensation programs and initiatives. This role will work with internal stakeholders to continuously identify and assess potential improvements to compensation plans, policies and communication. Specific job responsibilities include: * Subject matter expert in all areas of compensation – overall philosophy, salary structure management, market intelligence/trends & pay practices, job evaluation systems and pay progression strategy, competitive pay positioning (both internally and externally), variable/short-term incentive programs, sales compensation plans and recognition programs * Manage all compensation-related set-up and structures within Workday * Ensure streamlined and clear processes between Workday compensation plan set-up and payroll processes * Monitor internal, external, and industry compensation data/trends to ensure competitiveness and effectiveness of our compensation programs * Research and support of the implementation of compensation programs that may include job titles / families / functions, career progression models, short-term incentives, and salary structures * Monitor the effectiveness of existing compensation polices, guidelines, & procedures * Oversee job classification processes and compliance * Establish and maintain an effective/streamlined communication strategy for all compensation and incentive programs, including documentation of all plan guidelines and FAQs * Support managers and executives during annual salary and bonus cycles * Support the recruiting and HR teams by consulting on offer packages, maintaining benchmarking spreadsheets, etc. * Participate in salary surveys, gather & maintain compensation data on various pay practices at benchmark institutions.
