Definition of Class

We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Compensation and Classification Specialist to join our Human Resources team.

The Compensation and Classification Specialist will play a key role in developing, implementing, and maintaining the university's compensation and classification programs. This position offers a significant opportunity for professional growth and leadership within the HR department. You will work closely with various university departments to ensure fair, competitive, and strategic compensation practices that support the university's mission and goals.

This position has the potential for a hybrid work schedule.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Design, evaluate, and implement compensation programs, including salary structures, pay grades, and merit increase programs

  • Conduct job analysis and evaluations to ensure accurate classification of positions.

  • Collaborate with university departments to develop and maintain accurate job descriptions.

  • Perform market analysis to ensure competitive salary practices.

  • Provide guidance and support to HR and departmental staff on compensation and classification issues.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and policies.

  • Prepare and present compensation reports and data analysis to senior leadership

  • Participate in salary surveys and analyze survey results to maintain market competitiveness.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of compensation-related training programs for university staff.

  • Monitor and ensure the integrity of compensation data in HR systems.

  • Full cycle process improvement from Identifying opportunities for process improvement to implementation

  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  • Proven experience in compensation and classification, preferably within higher education.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.

  • Detailed understanding of compensation practices, job evaluation methods, and market analysis techniques.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in HRIS and compensation software, with Workday experience preferred.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree from a college or university in Public Administration, Human Resource Management, or a related field.

AND

Experience: Three (3) years of experience related to the above-described duties

Preferred Experience:

Experience in Workday or Salary.com compensation systems

Experience with the implementation of new compensation and classification structures in an organization
