ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Connections and Check-Ins

  • Engage, meet, and develop designated commuter student populations through informal and regular check-ins.

  • Promote events and opportunities for connection and development to commuter students using various communication channels and strategies.

  • Initiate contact and monitor email, text messages, and phone calls, and conduct in-person meetings to follow up with individual students within assigned commuter demographics.

Mentor-ship & Coaching

  • Develop students through mentor-ship, coaching, and discipleship individually and in groups.

  • Meet with the AD of Development and Programs for individual coaching, development, and support.

Organic Interactions & Initiatives

  • Engage commuter students in conversations, work, and socializing opportunities in Commuter Life spaces.

  • Leverage Commuter Life programs, hangouts, rhythms, series, and campaigns to contribute to individual commuter development.

  • Initiate organic events and gatherings on and off campus to promote connections and growth.

  • Participate in activities sponsored by Student Activities, Rec Centers, SGA, LU Shepherd, IDE, and other University departments to reinforce community and connections.

Interaction Documentation & Data Gathering

  • Document intentional interactions and report on critical life events for their designated commuter demographic.

  • Track engagement and participation for designated demographic populations.

  • Provide the Director & AD with information about student connections and well-being to support CARE and other student success outcomes.

Student Development Planning

  • Support strategy, planning, and execution of development programs, series, and campaigns for general commuters and their demographic.

  • Meet and collaborate with AD to advance team strategy, forecast event attendance, and debrief commuter check-ins.

Commuter Life Team Support

  • Assist in other Commuter Life/Student Life projects.

  • Assist in Representing Commuter Life in Welcome Week, CFAW, and Other University Events.

Other Duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in progress.
  • 1-2 years of student or peer development and engagement experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in progress.
  • 2-4 years of student or peer development and engagement experience.
  • 1-2 years of lay counseling experience.

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.

  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel, or stoop in order to conduct business.

  • Regularly lift 20 or fewer pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is an office setting. However, work frequently occurs in a variety of other settings, including, but not limited to, residence halls, warehouses, and outdoor activities.

Driving Requirements

Use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
