GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A Youth Peer Partner is a young adult, over the age of 18 who has personal "lived experience" with one of the youth-serving government or educational systems (ex.

Involvement with child welfare, developmental disability, Individual Education Plans (IEP), juvenile justice, mental health therapy, special education, and/or substance use treatment) who wants to provide guidance and support to other youth with complex challenges. A Peer Partner will walk alongside a youth, through the Wraparound planning process both during meetings with community partners and one-on-one. Peers have expertise and understanding that professional training and education cannot replicate, by sharing their personal stories they can help normalize and guide teens in similar situations. We are looking for someone who is passionate about advocating for youth, helping them find their voice and empowering them to use it, exploring the youth's strengths, and connecting them to opportunities in the community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must be over the age of 18 and have "lived experience" or have personally

received help from a service system (child welfare, developmental disability board, juvenile

justice, mental health/substance use treatment, special education, substance abuse, etc.).

The state of Ohio defines youth peer support as youth ages 18-26 years old.

? Desire to work with youth and families.

? Ability to operate with a non-judgmental attitude and ability to respond with empathy.

? Willingness to learn, about, and work with youth from diverse backgrounds.

? Familiarity with or willingness to learn about the child-serving systems and resources for

youth in Butler County.

? Good organizational skills and ability to work independently without direct supervision.

? Commitment to working as a team member in a team-based process.

? Ability to handle stressful situations.

? Understanding of ethics and boundaries in serving youth.

? High School Diploma, preference working on a college degree in a related field.

? Peer certification or willing to be trained as a certified peer partner.

? History of good job attendance.

? Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

? Must pass a criminal background check, and be free from communicable disease.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Learn Wraparound philosophy and principles and implement them in your work.

? Advocate for youth in all meetings, while helping them build self-advocacy skills.

? Attend Wraparound meetings in order to help youth share their opinions, as well as,

school, court, or other service meetings on an as-needed basis.

? Collaborate with the Wraparound Facilitator and team to organize help and develop

plans to support the youth & family.

? Prepare youth for upcoming meetings by going over agendas.

? Share your own experience with systems to youth and families in order to normalize

and guide their experience, as appropriate.

? Upload case notes after all interactions with youth and families in a timely manner.

? Ability to relate, engage and connect with youth in order to build an appropriate &

healthy working relationship.

? Meet with youth on a bi-weekly basis to check in about the Wraparound process.

? Partner with other community team members and research resources.

? Connect youth to natural supports in their community for long-term support.

OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

To serve as a role model for others in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible,

intelligent human beings.

? To help instill in others the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of: Board policies and procedures, educational policies and procedures, behavioral

health interventions, implications for HIPPA in school settings, public relations, and state and

federal reporting.

Ability to: Interpret policies and procedures, follow instructions, communicate effectively, maintain

files and reports, collect data, schedule appointments, and lift moderate amounts of weight

Skill in: Basic math, english and communications.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Computer and office equipment.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Occasional: Exposure to unruly children/adults, blood, bodily fluids and tissue.

Frequent: Exposure to outdoor weather conditions during gross motor play. Exposure to blood,

bodily fluids and tissue, unruly children/adults.

Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board. The employee shall remain free of any

alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her

employment in the District.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy

on Evaluation of Professional Staff.
