Community Student Support Professional

The College Community Learning Center Student Support Professional is an educational generalist who assists in facilitating the day-to-day functions of the Jackson County Learning Center in Seymour. This includes assisting with face-to-face or distance education needs, assisting prospective students to work through enrollment, participating in community and/or county engagement, and workforce and economic development needs and plans. Also involved is public relations within the community (i.e., public speaking and presentations) and marketing of the opportunities and services offered by the Community Learning Center. Continuous promotion of post-secondary education and the programs available by distance education is essential. The Student Support Professional - Seymour location will report to the Assist Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.

1.To provide necessary educational support services for students at the Learning Center, including:

• Providing information regarding educational opportunities available in the Community Learning Center.

• Assisting students in contacting faculty and administrators at participating institutions for information about courses and programs.

• Helping students with the admissions, and next steps process.

• Aiding in the registration and enrollment process.

• This may include: proctoring tests, instructing students in the use of various equipment and technology, and assistance with copying, faxing and mailing of tests, homework or other assignments.

2.To ensure classroom media equipment is on, functioning properly, and available for scheduled classes. Persons in this position may be required to attend equipment training sessions to become proficient and knowledgeable of equipment and be willing to troubleshoot when necessary.

3.To collaborate with marketing, admissions, and the community to develop appropriate services and support mechanisms to assist students in pursuing post-secondary courses and degrees and to initiate other student activities; to be a student advocate.

4.To be available for public informational broadcasts and/or teleconferences whenever possible for local agencies (i.e. media, health departments, law enforcement agencies, public schools, local government, etc.).

5.To keep up to date with the latest institutional marketing materials and have those materials available in the Community Learning Center.

6.Be able to work on site at the Seymour location or at another site within the service area depending on needs.

7.Must demonstrate ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.

Work Hours: Must be available to attend evening event occasionally

Pay Rate: $17.00/hr

Associate degree preferred in an appropriate discipline; work experience in fields related to education, community/economic development, counseling, or other appropriate fields; some familiarity with technical/instructional technologies.

Must be bi-lingual (Spanish/English)
