Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a licensed clinician interested in working with individuals convicted of sexual offenses and other problematic behavior. The Sex Offender Therapist II will facilitate group treatment, conduct intakes, complete risk assessments, and make recommendations for supervision strategies in the community. This individual will serve as a lead worker to entry level therapist and is responsible for overseeing daily needs of the program. We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of strengths and evidence-based approaches in mental health services. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and directs the intake assessment, progress assessment, and termination assessments of individuals in custody.

  • Serves as designated lead worker.

  • Provides specialized sex offender specific group and individual therapy utilizing a variety of evidence based therapeutic techniques.

  • Maintains required standards of clinical documentation that is specific and congruent to the sex offender population.

  • Conducts risk assessments and testing of sex offenders utilizing clinical evaluations procedures.

  • Travels to provide court testimony on treatment progression and evaluation.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires possession of a master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or a closely related behavioral science degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Requires five (5) years of related professional experience counseling sex offenders.

  • Requires eligibility to be approved to conduct sex offender treatment and evaluations by the Illinois Sex Offender Management Board.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least five (5) years of experience applying theories and assumptions underlying the field of sex offender treatment and evaluation.

  • Prefers at least five (5) years of experience in assessment instruments and measurement techniques.

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience with techniques and methods used in sex offender diagnostic evaluations, psychotherapy, and research.

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience applying and following state or non-state's rules and regulations governing the field of sex offender evaluation and treatment.

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience identifying valid, reliable individualized measures of client needs and progress.

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience applying training methods.

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of performing leadership and guidance to lower-level staff.

  • Prefers at least one (1) year experience in planning and design of individual treatment programs for assigned recipients.

  • Prefers at least one (1) year experience working cooperatively and effectively with staff members, department recipients, and their families.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.

  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
