The Pasadena Police Department is seeking an experienced police services paraprofessional to perform a variety of field and office/administrative support duties to support an assigned section: Patrol, Traffic, Uniforms & Equipment, Training, Event Planning or Community Services.TheCommunity Services Officer provides technical support in areas not requiring a sworn officer,such as taking police reports or burglary theft, traffic accidents, creating, overseeing andfacilitating various communityoutreach programs/events, and providing other technical support functions.

Essential Functions

Provides operational and administrative support in the field or office to an assigned section: Patrol, Traffic, Uniforms & Equipment, Training, Event PlanningorCommunity Services.
Responds to traffic accidents, burglary and/or theft incidents, documenting occurrence and preparing criminal incident reports.
Provides assistance to law enforcement personnel in creating, overseeing and supporting crime prevention and community programs and events.
Creates program material and handouts, and makes oral presentations to community groups; coordinates program/event logistics.
Conducts research on special projects; presents findings of studies and surveys.
May assist withcrowd and traffic control.
Takes witness statements and serves subpoenas.
Performs a variety of complex clerical and customer support functions including assisting with public inquiries and providing information.
Provides guidance and training of other staff members.
May dispatch and operate police vehicles and equipment.

Oral Communication
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and at least two years of progressively responsible experience in police services administration duties including field experience, police clerical support or providing assistance or information to the public.
Successful completion of the Pasadena Police Cadet program may be substituted for the required experience.
Completion of college-level courses in Police Science from an accredited university is highly desirable.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process may consist of a training and experience evaluation, written test, department-level interviews, and a comprehensive background investigation.
VACANCY INFORMATION
There is currently one vacancy in the Police Department which may be filled as a result of this selection process.
The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future.
Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one-year probationary word period.
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license and comply with the City's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment.
Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation is required which may include a review of employment history, criminal conviction record, credit history, use of intoxicants and/or other controlled substances and psychological evaluation.
Successful completion of the state-mandated CLETS training program as required by the California State Department of Justice within six months of date of employment and ongoing maintenance of CLETS certification.
Successful completion of Basic Accident Investigation Training and POST Driver's Training courses must be completed within the six months of employment.
May be assigned to work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights. Depending on the assignment, must be available to work a varying and flexible schedule. May be assigned field and/or office duties.
