The City of Menifee's Community Services department is looking for energetic, motivated and enthusiastic candidates to join the team. We enhance residents' quality of life by delivering quality programs, services, and facilities that create lasting positive memories for youth, adults and seniors throughout the community.
THE POSITION
Community Services Leaders incumbents, under supervision of the Community Services Supervisor or Community Services Coordinator, assist in coordination and implementation of Community Services programs, classes, special events, and facility supervision.
Note: This is an at-will, seasonal, part-time position without benefits. Positions may end at any time, and there is no guarantee of hours. Work hours for part-time positions are scheduled based on operational need and typically do not exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year from July 1 through June 30, unless further authorized. Incumbents may be required to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, holidays, weekends, and split-shifts.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Community Services Leader I
Positions in this class perform responsible recreation activity supervision involving planning and conducting activities in program areas such as sports, arts and crafts, dance, outdoor education, special events or other activities related to assignment. Work involves organizing and directing recreation programs within established schedules, standards and policies, as well as using independent judgment in dealing with program or customer service problems. Work is initially closely supervised and is observed while performing and upon completion. Ability to work independently will occur when the employee gains experience and demonstrates ability to perform a range of duties with minimal supervision.

KNOWLEDGE OF
Basic community services/recreation activities, philosophies, and concepts.
Principles and techniques of planning, organizing, and conducting recreation, leisure and volunteer programs.
Principles of public relations and publicity methods.
Research techniques, methods, and procedures.
Report writing and presentations (verbal and written).
Sports, crafts, music, and general play skills.
Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
ABILITY TO
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Community Services Leader I
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade or currently enrolled in high school. Experience as a group activity worker is desirable. Must be 16 years of age or older.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employees are frequently required to walk and stand. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills, and interact with City officials, staff, customers, the public and other encountered in the course of work.
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this class. Employees work under typical office and recreation environments with moderate noise levels, controlled and uncontrolled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Tools and Equipment Used:
Personal computer, including graphics and word processing software; telephone; calculator; typewriter; copy and fax machines; and other modern office machines as necessary.

Examinations for the position may consist of any combination of written, performance, and oral exams to evaluate the applicant's skill, training, and experience for the position.
