Provide enforcement of specific infractions of municipal ordinances, support police officers on calls for service, and provide traffic control. Perform public services tasks, assist with department administration functions.

Investigate potential code violations by identifying and responding to complaints; make inspections of residential, business, commercial, and public property; issue instructions for correction of the problem; maintain logs and records related to the inspections and enforcement activity; consult with prosecutors and prepare case reports for court action; and testify in court.

Work with Legal, Planning, Building, Health and Public Works departments in providing assistance as needed for resolving other city code violations.

Prepare items for auction.

Investigate parking, abandoned vehicles, found property and complaints.

Investigate parking violations, issue parking violation citations, arrange towing of vehicles for parking or abandoned vehicle violations.

Assist with police impound activities, including the receipt, inventory, and release of impounded vehicles.

Prepare reports, and documents related to vehicle towing, recovered property and other incidents.

Direct traffic; transport department vehicles for maintenance; transport items for mailing or shipping.

Assist officers at criminal and traffic calls for services; place vehicles in and release vehicles from the department's impound lot.

Take minor criminal and non-criminal complaints and prepare reports as directed.

Provide general assistance to motorists and citizens; conduct traffic surveys.

Make local purchases of items for the department; wait on citizens at the service counter or telephone.

Transport, deploy, secure and retrieve speed measuring device(s).

Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language.

English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Basic report preparation.

Relevant software applications, including Microsoft Word.

Local geography, including streets and alleys.

Motor vehicle laws and regulations.

Ability to:

Work some evenings and weekends as scheduled.

Operate a computer and use computer programs in accomplishing tasks.

Walk over different terrains and inclines.

Stand for extended periods of time.

Bend, stoop, crouch, sit and kneel.

Climb stairs.

Lift a minimum of 50 pounds to waist height.

Work outdoors in all types of weather extremes.

Work in daylight and darkness.

Drive a motor vehicle in daylight and darkness.

Hear voice conversations.

Hear radio transmissions.

Read license plates, house numbers, street signs, etc., in daylight and limited light conditions.

See groups of letters and numbers and be able to accurately record them by writing.

See groups of letters and numbers and be able to accurately repeat them by speaking.

Speak to people to provide information and give directions so as to be easily understood.

Speak on the radio and telephone so as to be easily understood.

Write reports and documents.

Work and perform duties without direct supervision and be able to independently make decisions.

Must be able to control emotions and biases while fulfilling duties. This includes direct contact with persons who are upset and angry and persons from diverse cultural, socio-economic, economic, racial, and sexual backgrounds.

Must be able to work in a stressful, large workload environment.

Must maintain the confidentiality of information exposed to while performing duties assigned.

Must be of good moral character.

Any combination of experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school.

License or Certification:

Employee must possess a valid driver's license and maintain insurability as determined by the City's insurance carrier. Click here to view our driver eligibility requirements.

Working Hours:

Approximately 17 hours per week including day, evening and weekend hours

Salary:

Position will start at the entry level of the City's salary table.  Consideration may be given if experience exceeds entry level qualifications.

Candidates will be subject to a background check.
