DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Investigates all service requests and creates work orders as needed within established deadlines. Completes minor repairs (i.e. replace missing asset covers, small debris removal, install temporary barricade, etc.) Utilizes new computer technology, i.e. iPads, tablets, and mobile applications. Performs inspections, identifies problem areas and recommends solutions. Meets with the general public, civic groups, contractors, technical professionals and businesses to respond to inquiries and resolve problems. Performs record keeping activities to maintain filing systems, reports and documentation. Prepares and submits various technical reports.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items up to 40 lbs. and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED certificate and up to eighteen months of specialized education or training in a specific area or trade.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of experience related to customer service or an area of inspection to be performed is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving. (AP 2-2).Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.*SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None
However, the department may administer a skills assessment test.
