The Community Response Team (CRT) is a crisis intervention program that serves Douglas County and provides an emergency response to individuals experiencing a mental health and/or substance use disorder crisis in the community. The Community Response Team clinician operates as a Co-Responder team member with law enforcement, riding 40 - hours/week with an assigned law enforcement partner in a police vehicle. This is a crisis position, working alongside law enforcement and a resource specialist providing emergency response to individuals experiencing a mental health and/or substance use disorder crisis in community or school settings.

Generally, the hiring range is $64,424-$80,530 annually. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.

This position's schedule is 4, 10 hour days that will be either A Side: Sunday to Wednesday or B Side: Wednesday to Saturday. Additional day, evening, weekend and/or holiday hours may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Involves identifying, assessing, stabilizing, and safety planning with individual and families with the goal of reducing imminent risk and increasing coping skills and functioning.

  • Works alongside law enforcement, treatment providers and other partners as members of a multi-disciplinary team devoted to linking individuals and families to the appropriate treatment.

  • Ideally the clinicians assist in diverting individuals from emergency departments, jails and maintaining individuals in their home and communities.

  • Conduct psychosocial evaluations, using evidence-based tools, for individuals experiencing an acute psychiatric emergency in various community settings.

  • Develop effective safety/crisis intervention plans that are client-centered and support strong therapeutic partnerships with clients and families.

  • Coordinate immediate placement and follow-up services with community providers using the strength-based, Wrap-Around philosophy.

  • Function as part of an interdisciplinary team as well as develop and maintain effective relationships with other community professionals.

  • Provide care/support to families that demonstrates cultural awareness and respect of their cultural beliefs, customs, and norms.

  • Refer individuals and families to resource specialist services which provide coordination with other agencies and service providers to meet SDoH needs.

  • Document in Julota all assessments completed, interactions with individuals and families, and any other pertinent information or information required in the CRT process.

  • Attend team meetings as scheduled.

  • Regularly meet with the CRT clinical supervisor.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Under general and routine supervision of the CRT Clinical Supervisor, the employee receives clinical guidance and supervision while operating with a high degree of independence during day-to-day assignments as a co-responder. Work is reviewed for adherence to professional standards, instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to best practices in co-response and crisis intervention.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory authority.

INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work is highly independent under the guidance of a clinical supervisor. Worker chooses courses of action in consultation with supervisor and others as appropriate. Incumbent has wide range to use individual judgment in selecting the proper means to achieve the desired results. The worker impacts the community interest by preventing unnecessary emergency department visits, incarceration in partnership with LE partner and institutionalization unless necessary, preventing harm to client's physical or emotional status, and strengthening the family systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in psychology, counseling, or social work required.

  • Must be licensed or pending licensure with supervision (LPC, LMFT, LCSW).

  • At least 2 year of treatment experience in a mental health setting.

  • Must have crisis experience.

  • Experience with military and/or law enforcement is a plus.

  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be aware of clinical best practices and the requirements to hold licensure in the state of Colorado.

  • Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with county employees, law enforcement and community partners.

  • Understand Colorado Mental Health related legislation and CRT operational policy and procedure.

  • Ability to perform the duties of a crisis clinician in partnership with law enforcement and understand and uphold the responsibilities of the clinical role.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must be licensed or supervised pending licensure (LPC, LMFT, LCSW).

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.

  • This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Essential work environment is in a police vehicle during 4 - 10 hour per day shifts.

  • Some meetings for case staffings, training and other relevant meetings.

  • Contact with Douglas County community members/clients under a wide variety of circumstances, including unpredictable situations.

  • Pressure to respond to multiple calls and inquires.

  • Subject to schedule changes based on the needs of the program.

In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions. This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required. In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
